Responsibilities

  • The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function
  • Effectively investigate all defects, problems and challenges and report the outcomes
  • Continuously control and document the analysis, implementation, review and test of proposed changes to all infrastructure and link to defects as well as report problems where applicable
  • Regularly advise on communications requirements of installed and planned networked information systems, including security, characteristics of associated hardware and software and targets for performance and quality of service
  • Timeously review, with users, other staff and suppliers, both the network traffic and the performance and quality of service provided by the network and its constituent hardware, software, transmission services and support functions
  • Successfully diagnose and resolve network problems, ensuring that the agreed levels of service and the needs for quality, security, availability and safety, utilising appropriate specialised techniques, tools, methods or standards are taken into account and met
  • Continually obtain diagnostic data to assist in the investigation and resolution of problems
  • Effectively match unresolved incidents against existing problems, known errors and other incidents
  • Ensure that incidents and problems in systems and services are fully documented
  • Accurately classify and prioritize unresolved incidents
  • Successfully initiate and co-ordinate investigations to discover root causes, and further the implementation of remedial action
  • Constantly ensure that investigations are fully documented, in order to facilitate the optimum implementation of remedies
  • Adherence to departmental policy and procedure
  • Successfully initiate projects as a result of incident or problem analyses. Agree with research goals and continuously generate original and worthwhile ideas in a specialised field within Dispatch systems and instrumentation
  • Successfully take responsibility for the systems testing function within a systems department or project, and Actively assist in the solving of business problems by providing advice and guidance to all levels of customers in the expert use of systems, products and services available to them

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent
  • Diploma or Degree (Bachelors) in Electrical Computer Instrumentation
  • Three years Computer Instrumentation working experience would be compulsory
  • Advanced Experience with wireless technology, IP Networks as well as technical working knowledge of other communication technology (Radio) would be compulsory, including an advanced understanding of two way communication technology
