Under the guidance of the UNFPA Representative and/or Deputy Representative and direct supervision of the Assistant Representative, the Gender Analyst will be responsible for the Gender and Human Rights related interventions of the Country Programme.

Gender Analyst

The Gender Analyst substantively contributes to the effective management of UNFPA activities in the areas of gender and human rights. S/he analyses and assesses relevant political, social and economic trends and provides substantive inputs to programme formulation and evaluation, joint programming initiatives and national development frameworks. The Programme Analyst guides and facilitates the delivery of UNFPA’s programmes by monitoring results achieved during implementation. S/he ensures and guides the appropriate application of systems and procedures and develops enhancements if necessary.

Specifically, S/he will support government and CSO partners on strengthening institutional capacity to mainstream gender in selected institutions; and enhancing community capacity to protect women’s and girls’ rights in the areas of gender-based violence, and gender sensitive and responsive integrated SRH and HIV/AIDS programmes, including contributing to accelerating progress on the ICPD beyond 2014 agenda and SDGs. S/he will also support gender mainstreaming efforts by the Country Office across all programme areas.

Requirements:
Education
Master’s degree in Gender and Development, Law, Social Work, or any other relevant social science field of study

Qualifications and experience

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience with increasing professional experience and responsibilities at national level in programme/project management
  • Familiarity and knowledge of the functioning of the UN and its policies will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of rights-centered approaches and gender mainstreaming in social development
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the gender and human rights related issues
  • Working experience in policy analysis, and advocacy for gender, women empowerment and human rights in the context of sustainable development; and working experience in communication and advocacy
  • Demonstrated experience in programme/project planning, design, follow up, monitoring and evaluation
  • Computer skills: Proficiency in current office software applications
  • Shortlisted candidates may be required to successfully complete a UNFPA position related test

Languages

  • Fluency in written and verbal English is required
  • Knowledge of a second UN language is an advantage
