PIN’s office in Zambia is currently located in Mongu, Western province. PIN’s programme focusses on rural development using a multi-sectoral approach (agriculture, nutrition, food security, WASH, saving groups, maternal and child health, energy) and on good governance
Description of the Role
Reporting to the WASH Project Officer, the Field Coordinator will be responsible for overall coordination of all project activities in his/her assigned province (Western or Lusaka), including managing relations with project stakeholders such as community leaders, government officials, staff at the target health facilities, suppliers and other consortium partners. He/she will also be responsible for overall preparation and implementation of activity schedules in the target communities
Responsibilities:
- Participates in development, implementation and revision of project work plan and budget
- Leads in implementation of project activities on the ground (with a particular focus on distribution of WASH NFIs to target households and health facilities, rehabilitation of water systems, installation of handwashing stations and coordination of hygiene and sanitation awareness raising campaign)
- Manages relations with project stakeholders such as community leaders, government officials and staff at the target health facilities
- Reports to WASH Project Officer on implementation of project activities and utilization of financial resources
- Participates in monitoring and evaluation activities
- Works with the MEAL Assistant in rolling out Community Feedback and Response Mechanisms (CFRM) in the target communities
- Stores official project documentation in orderly manner (both soft and hard copies)
- Ensures that project documentation is properly generated, approved & archived in the internal databases – ELO, Sharepoint etc., according to PIN and donor guidelines
Note: All the above key responsibilities are for guidance purpose only. Specific and detailed job responsibilities would form part of the job contract of the applicant selected for the position. Relocation and repatriation allowance will not be paid for the above position.
PERSON SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Work Experience and Knowledge
- Desired technical background in implementation and coordination of WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) programmes
- At least 2 years of experience in working in coordination position
- Experience in community mobilization and community awareness-raising campaigns
- Experience of working for an international non-governmental organization is an advantage
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Experience in working with key local stakeholders (community leaders, government officials, health facility staff, etc.)
- Fluency in written and spoken English (fluency in Silozi language preferred for the posting in Western Province)
- Understanding of and experience in project cycle management is beneficial
- Motorbike riding with valid “A” license preferred
- Willingness to spend at least 80% of time in the field working with the target communities
Education
- Full grade 12 certificate
- Diploma (or a degree) in a relevant field (Project Management, Development Studies or any other relevant field)
