GRS’s evidence-based programmes, led by trained local Coaches, incorporate soccer into dynamic lessons about health and wellness that engage young people and break down cultural barriers. With proven results and a constant focus on research and innovation, GRS has reached over 1.7 million young people in nearly 50 countries with adolescent-friendly health education.

Role Overview

This position is responsible for continually evolving Grassroot Soccer (GRS) data management systems. The role ensures our database, which primarily stores program monitoring and evaluation (M&E) data aligns with our strategy and adequately captures key programmatic and partners activities in GRS priority geographies. This role thinks and acts quickly and creatively to keep GRS at the cutting edge of Salesforce optimization, without straying from user experience or system integrity. Although often a behind-the-scenes position, the position holds significant responsibility: translating requirements into effective products, conducting data maintenance and quality, generating reports, and training users. The Systems Analyst and Developer will manage and administer the custom Salesforce/Force.com application. This role will support GRS grant managers, program managers, business development (BD) and M&E managers to determine the role of Salesforce or related system feature and/or function in the organization.

Key Performance Areas Systems Manager

  • Oversee management of GRS data systems, be the primary person responsible for administering the custom Salesforce/Force.com application.
  • Routinely gather user requirements and make configuration-related changes in the application including, but not limited to, adding new fields, editing page layouts, creating reports and dashboards, creating workflow rules, and designing approval processes.
  • Routinely train and support users in understanding the flow of work in the application, in using the application effectively, on system changes, and report building. Create “how-to” internal guidance and relevant trainings.
  • Ensure that data is relevant and useful for program staff, management teams, and funders.
  • Perform ongoing data cleaning, data quality assurance, and user adoption troubleshooting to ensure successful uptake of the application.
  • Routinely generate and/or assist in generation of relevant and clear written communications and guidance for users, managers and GRS leadership.
  • Provide system maintenance via the tracking system to troubleshoot system breakdowns, system errors, and system functioning.
  • Work closely with GRS Grant, Program, M&E and Business Development managers to determine the role of Salesforce or related system feature and/or function in the organization.
  • Ensure the Salesforce system is able to capture programmatic outputs and outcomes and adjust as appropriate to new programmes, ensuring the system is adaptive, flexible and responsive.
  • Work across business units taking into account each unit’s needs re: M&E and data in order to determine optimal shared and unique functions for the system, which may require adjustment.
  • Track and analyze past trends and current conditions, report out to Managers quarterly on interesting trends, patterns, anomalies, etc. May include further analysis of specific problems for stakeholders, analysis of impact and mitigation of consequences, creating a plan, training users, testing and monitoring of functionality.
  • Research emerging related technologies/features/platforms, use professional judgment, internal data, programmatic need, and user experience to assess whether implementation or development will increase the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness.
  • In line with GRS strategy and needs, devise ways to add new functionality to existing Salesforce and related systems, with flexibility to expand beyond routine monitoring to other operational processes such as Business Development and Human Resources.
  • Design and implement new systems by identifying, recommending and configuring appropriate equipment.
  • Oversee the installation and configuration of any new, related systems to customize them for GRS.
  • Conduct testing in consultation with GRS managers to ensure that the systems work as expected
  • Project manage all aspects of new development and manage all support and projects contracted to third party vendors.
  • Responsible for all changes in Salesforce and related systems including configuration, coding and any external consultants. Work directly with GRS staff to improve user adoption and engagement
  • Quality Assure (QA) reports and dashboards monthly Employee Management
  • Manage and oversee the position of Assistant Global Systems Analyst.
  • Work closely with the Director of Strategy to set priorities across business units and to manage expectations.

Qualifications and Competencies Required

Educational Qualification:

Relevant degree required.

  • Work Experience: 3-5 years’ work experience with systems and processes to support, collect, analyse and report data for program and organization learning. Experience working in international development and M&E in Southern Africa preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Exceptional command of the Salesforce/Force.com platform or comparable data management system; Salesforce Administrator Certification (ADM201 and DEV401) preferred. Ability to program in Java, HTML, Apex, or Visualforce preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
  • Analytic Skills: Demonstrated ability to understand and/or anticipate organizational and business needs and to translate those needs into clear reports and dashboards. Knowledge of SPSS, Stata, or other analytical software preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrated ability to collaborate with respect and collegiality with staff at various levels of seniority and across business units. Excellent verbal and written communication in English. Patience in understanding and explaining issues within a multi-cultural environment is a must.
  • Work Style: Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, managing multiple priorities. Motivation to tackle projects independently and acute attention to detail required. Desire to expand skills and innovate to help build the capacity of others.
