The Health Professions Council of Zambia is a statutory regulatory body under the Ministry of Health with both statutory obligations to regulate the registration of health care facilities and health practitioners as well maintaining optimal standards of competence, care, and professional conduct. It was established under the Health Professions Act No. 24 of 2009. The Health Professions Act continues the existence of the Medical Council of Zambia which was established under the repealed Medical and Allied Professions Act. The mission of the Health Professions Council of Zambia is ‘to regulate the professional conduct of Public and Private Health practitioners and institutions in order to assure the provision of quality health services.’

The Council seeks applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill up the following position:

LEGAL OFFICER X 01

Job Profile: To undertake effectively the provision of legal advice in order to facilitate the dispensation of justice and ensure the Council operates within precincts of the law.

Main duties:

  • Provides legal advice to the Council on all matters requiring legal advice to ensure that the Council operates within the precincts of the law;
  • Undertakes timely preparation of legal reports in order to facilitate decision making by the Council;
  • Undertakes the provision of instruction to Attorney General Chambers in order to protect the States interests;
  • Undertakes effectively the drafting of legal documents in order to facilitate and strengthen collaborations with other institutions and jurisdictions;

Reporting relationship, Knowledge, and skills requirements:

  • Reporting to the Legal Counsel
  • LLB Degree
  • An advocate of the High Court
  • Full Grade 12/ Form V School Certificate
  • MUST be a Full paid up member of professional bodies with latest practicing membership licence
  • Minimum of one (01) year work experience as an advocate
  • Excellent report writing a MUST
  • Computer literate a MUST
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity

·         Excellent English language oral and written communication skills with interpersonal skills
