Health Program Coordinator Needed at Children International in Zambia

The Person

We are looking for an individual who is ready for an exciting career in a fast-paced, Lusaka-based international NGO, and is trained in clinical medicine, medical licentiate, public health or an advanced nursing degree with practical experience in project management and demonstrated leadership. S/he must be a quick learner, adaptable and able to multi-task.

Key responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Programs Manager, the Health Program Coordinator:

  1. Ensures the smooth and efficient delivery of medical services to the sponsored children and families.
  2. Prepares and plans activities for all paramedical and other staff, makes budget requests, and coordinates with concerned staff to ensure efficient implementation of health programs.
  3. Reviews, evaluates and prepares programs, projects and activities for annual work plan, quarterly statistical report, mid and end of year report.
  4. Oversees the implementation of the nutrition rehabilitation program for the chronically ill and HIV positive children.
  5. Supervises the paramedical staff, dentists and volunteer health workers in the implementation of health programs.
  6. Facilitates planning preparation of training modules and materials for capacity building of the field staff and volunteers.
  7. Establishes networks and partnerships for effective delivery of health programs in the CI covered areas.
  8. Ensures systematic filing, recording and follow-up of medical, dental, and other special cases involving the sponsored children and their families.
  9. Updates and discusses with the immediate supervisor and concerned staff issues and concerns in the health program
  10. Performs other tasks as may be assigned from time to time

Essential abilities and attributes

  1. Member of the Health Profession Council of Zambia and in good standing.
  2. Advanced ICT skills with good command of both written and oral English language.
  3. Demonstrated project management experience.
  4. Demonstrated leadership, managing sizeable number of professional and volunteer field personnel.
  5. Experience working with disadvantaged communities.
  6. Experience in writing project proposals.
  7. Experience in networking and stakeholder engagement.
  8. Familiar with Zambia’s health system, processes and procedures.
