(S)he would incorporate essentials of Social Capital including group formation, Informal Savings and Loans, and training in Heifer’s 12 cornerstones for Just and Sustainable Development, personal leadership, Participatory Self Review and Planning (PSRP) and gender justice. (S) He shall build the capacity of internal Heifer Zambia staff, Self Help Groups, cooperatives, and Partners by providing leadership and overall support to ensure quality, consistency and effective training and follow up. The SCDTM will work in close coordination with the Head Office team and other country program staff to ensure the successful, innovative, efficient and effective functioning of SHGs, Milk Bulking Groups – MBGs and enterprise hubs in the program. The SCDTM shall support the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Country Office and project partners, farmers and staff training.The Social Capital Development and Training Manager leads in the delivery of Social Capital Strengthening, Group Development, and Organizational Development Trainings for Country Projects, Project Partners, Farmers and Heifer Zambia Staff.

Responsibilities And Deliverables

  • Social Capital Development Management (30%)
  • Provide leadership in the implementation, incorporation, and strengthening of Heifer’s Values-Based Holistic Community Development – VBHCD including Social Capital approaches in SHGs, Milk Bulking Groups, Cooperatives, and hubs. Serve as the point person for Social Capital.
  • Keep informed on issues of socio-economic development, agriculture, environment and livestock programs and policies.
  • Liaise with project staff, Agribusiness development Manager to strengthen Pro-Poor Wealth Creation Value Chains – PPWCVC and Market development approaches

DELIVERABLE

  • Created awareness on Value-based holistic Community at SHG and community levels on an on-going basis.
  • Strong cohesive groups in place.
  • Effective communication links created within Heifer Zambia Departments and with Heifer HQ continuously.
  • Awareness of current program policies regarding socio-economic development, agriculture, and environment re-inforced continuously.
  • PPWCVC and Market-driven approaches strengthened on a semester basis

Social Capital Training Management (15%)

  • In conjunction with program teams, supporting and organizing delivery of various training/workshops such as Heifer Cornerstones, PSRP, Gender and Justice, group management and personal leadership development for Heifer staff, project participants, Informal Savings and Loans, and partner staff training.

DELIVERABLE

  • Social capital practices streamlined in all project phases on a semester basis.
  • Staff, farmers, and key stakeholders trained on the all components of VBHCD annually.
  • HR and program related training readily available for roll out.

Training of Trainers (10%)

  • Identification, design, implement and follow-up of training and backstop the program staff as well as project partner staff and community facilitators to be highly efficient, effective and consistent trainers to produce social transformation and TOC domain impacts in the field.

DELIVERABLE

  • The continuous existence of socially transformed and self-aware persons within the communities
  • The continuous presence of strengthened groups in the project communities
  • A created movement of social transformation in project communities.
  • Heifer project Participants acting as change agents continuously

Training Material Preparation and Monitoring (10%)

  • Developing, reviewing and updating training modules/manuals, and related training materials.
  • Facilitate project implementer to set up various training modules and train them in their use; provide follow-up services to these training programs.

DELIVERABLE

  • Skill gaps assessments conducted within first six months of the project
  • A Capacity-building plan established within the first six months of the project
  • Training manuals or social capital designed within the first year of the of the project.
  • Farmers and staff trained yearly

Proposal Writing (10%)

  • Provide input into projects/programs design making sure the full integration of social capital development components into project design.

DELIVERABLE

  • Social capital practices mainstreamed into all projects.
  • Mainstreamed Social Capital indicators in project results framework continuously

Relationships Management (10%)

  • Be familiar with Heifer and the work of other development organizations in the country to develop good working relationships with them.

DELIVERABLE

  • New and existing relationships built and maintained
  • strategies in place and exchange visits to other development organizations.

M&E (5%)

  • Coordinate with the Monitoring, Evaluation an Learning Manager and develop tools and indicators for monitoring efficiency of training programs and impact of SCD work. Coordinate with the other program team members in developing training tools and guidelines.

DELIVERABLE

  • Monitoring tools and indicators for social capital designed within six months of project onset.
  • Qualitative process and techniques developed to track social capital impact yearly.
  • Parallel Co-Funding planned, tracked and reported quarterly
  • Quarterly reports shared on SCD performance

Planning and Budgeting (5%)

  • In coordination with Country Programs team, assist in the preparation of annual training plans and budget, track and assess implementation of the training plan.

DELIVERABLE

  • Availability of Annual training plan and budget and assessment of implementation plan.
  • Budget monitored and reported monthly

May perform other job-related duties as assigned (5%).

  • To be assigned by the supervisor as the need arises.

Required SkillsRequired ExperienceMinimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in community development, social science, development studies, adult education or related field required, plus three years of experience. Other job-related education and experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements.
  • At least three years’ experience in the development sector preferably as a trainer (group training and group dynamics), designing and implementing adult learning methodology and organizational development.

Preferred Requirements

  • Postgraduate qualification in a training field would be an added advantage.
  • Five years’ experience working with rural communities would be an added advantage.
  • Fluent in English and the local language both spoken and written.
  • At least four years relevant training experience with community-based groups and peer farmers
  • Sound knowledge of training methodologies including participatory training approaches.
  • Strong experience in group development and social capital development.
  • Knowledge and experience in the development and application of training manuals and training modules.
  • Knowledge of and experience in delivery and monitoring the impact of training integrated with other interventions.

Most Critical Proficiencies

  • Knowledge of different training topics such as social capital, gender, documentation, etc.
  • Knowledge of and experience with or within community organizations
  • Fluent in English and the local language, both spoken and written
  • Interest in animal, agriculture and community development
  • Understand the importance of traditional customs of the various groups and be familiar with their lifestyles
  • Basic understanding of and sensitivity to issues associated with poverty, hunger and the environment
  • Experience in participatory training methodology, preferably with an NGO/INGO
  • Outstanding communication skills; good at writing and making speeches
  • Excellent organizational skills including strong attention to details
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and electronic mail software (Microsoft preferred)
