Job Description
Abbas Heart Zambia is looking for House Parents for our boy’s long-term rescue and recovery program.
We are looking for a mature Christian Zambian couple, preferably with no children in their current home. This couple would become nurturing, live-in, caregivers of up to 8 young men, ages 10-18 who have been rescued from the streets of Kitwe. The boys will have proven their desire for rescue and rehabilitation through outreach programs in town before coming into the home and will be well known by the AHZ staff.
Job Purpose Summary: The House Parent is responsible for the biblical caregiving and development of their children in care. This job is comprehensive and designed to rehabilitate, cultivate and disciple the children for independent living. The HP’s are to manage a household of 8 residents who have lived as street children. The primary objective is to mentor the children and share the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
Key Responsibilities:
Constant supervision of residents living in their home
Ensure that the home is clean, well-organized, and maintains an atmosphere conducive to
family life
Organize and maintain a daily timetable for the residents that includes chores, meal times,
school, recreation, devotions, study time, bath, washing, and bedtime
Manage behavior issues swiftly and appropriately according to the circumstance and
individual (training provided)
Teach them at every opportunity the ways of Christ and the story of the gospel
Engage relationally whenever possible equipping them with life skills like cooking, personal
hygiene, work ethic, learning, games, cultivating a garden, small business, etc.
Prepare a plan with goals and practical steps to achieve for each resident to meet in order to
be successful on Exodus and Independent Living
Written reporting of progress, discipline incidents, behavior issues, etc.
Manage basic household funds
Grocery purchasing for the household on a weekly basis
The House Parents have no housing or food expenses as these are covered by Abbas Heart Zambia.
The monthly pay is k4500. Weekly overnight off day is scheduled.
The House Parent is provided with extensive training and eased into the living situation with an agreed-upon strategy. The House Parents are provided with a private master bedroom and bath within the home as well as a part-time house helper. HP’s are under the care and support team of Abba’s Home Life Coordinator who can help them navigate through all situations that may arise during the learning process. Medical, educational, vocational, discipleship, and extra activities are all coordinated through the support of the full residential team.
