Job Title: Inclusive Education Advisor

Reporting to: LCD Southern Africa Regional Programme Manager

Department: International – based in Lusaka, Zambia

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Liaising with Leonard Cheshire Disability’s project partners in Zambia, the Inclusive Education (IE) Advisor will develop our IE programme in the Southern Africa region through capacity building and technical support, ensuring quality of interventions and demonstrating innovative approaches to IE. The IE Advisor will also represent LCD at provincial and district platforms for education, engaging in strategic IE alliances and networks.

The contract for this position will end on 31 August 2017.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the implementation of quality IE projects through the provision of technical support to partners, with specific emphasis on supporting children with disabilities.
Assess the training needs of key stakeholders including project partners, teachers and government officials, and lead on capacity building training on disability and IE, including the development of training modules and operational guidelines.
Take responsibility for identifying external training providers as necessary.
Develop resources and communication materials on disability and IE.
Develop links and build relationships with key education sector officials, NGOs/INGOs and government ministries.
Take the lead on sharing best practice and learning related to IE with key stakeholders.
Participate in, and represent LCD at, relevant education and disability fora and networks, and engage in provincial and national alliances.
Support on baseline and evaluation processes as necessary.
Work closely with project partners to identify and generate evidence of effective interventions that have potential for scale-up.
Support the development of new IE initiatives in the Southern Africa region.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Qualifications

Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline.

Essential Other

At least three years’ experience working in an education-related discipline, including at least one year working on IE-specific interventions.
Experience of training and capacity building a variety of stakeholders.
Experience of developing resources and communication materials for internal and external audiences.
Experience of developing effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
Ability to travel within Zambia.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills (English).
Excellent interpersonal skills.

Desirable Requirements

Knowledge and experience of Government education systems.
Good knowledge of current issues, policies and best practice in education, particularly IE, both nationally and internationally.
Post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
Ability to communicate (spoken and written) in Tonga and/or Nyanja.
Basic proficiency in sign language.
A disabled person.
