Indaba Agricultural Policy Institute (IAPRI): Call For Application – Internship


Job Description

  • The Indaba Agricultural Policy Institute (IAPRI) seeks to enlist three (5) research interns for a 6-month internship under the following thematic areas
    • Agricultural Diversification.
    • Public Policy and Spending.
    • Agricultural Technology and Smallholder Productivity.
    • Agriculture, Food Security, and Nutrition.
    • Climate Change and Natural Resources Management.
    • Gender and Youth.
  • The interns will provide research support in these thematic areas and will be based at IAPRI’s office in Kabulonga, Lusaka.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Report to the Research Director.
  • Under the guidance of the Research Director or any of the Researchers, assist with research under any of the thematic areas through:
    • Assist with organizing and conducting field interviews at household or community levels.
    • Assist with organizing and conducting interviews with key informants and writing interview reports.
    • Conducting a literature review to support various studies being undertaken.
    • Assisting with descriptive and/or econometric analysis.
    • Assist in responding to queries and formulation of advisory note on key agricultural policy emerging issues in Zambia and the region.
  • Carry out assignments under IAPRI’s Business Development Programme (BDU) under the supervision of the BDU Manager.
  • Assist with preparations of IAPRI Outreach activities under the supervision of the Outreach Director.
  • Participate in IAPRI’s capacity building programmes.

Required Qualifications

  • Recently graduated Master’s Degree holder from a recognized university program in environmental and natural resources economics, international environmental science, agricultural economics, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research.
  • Excellent writing, analytical and communication skills in English.
  • As an added advantage, experience in data collection, analysis, and management, including manipulation of large datasets.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines for deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with initiative and minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team.

Expected Attributes

  • Proficiency in SPSS, STATA, R or other statistical packages.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to perform geo-spatial analysis using a Geographic Information System (GIS) or other spatial analysis tools will be an added advantage.
