Working in Zambia since 1996, Plan International Zambia’s development and capacity building programmes focus primarily on Education, Health, Water and Sanitation, Economic Security and Youth Empowerment, including Child Protection and Participation. Plan International Zambia has programme areas (PAs) in; Central, Luapula, and Eastern Provinces including Lusaka, where the Country Office is located.
We are looking for experienced, vibrant and self-starters to fill the following position:
Infant and Young Children Feeding (IYCF) Facilitators – (Central, Luapula and Eastern Provinces)
Position Description
The position exists to implement the Infant and Young Children Feeding activities planned for the respective intervention districts. S/he will work closely with Community Health Workers and community to ensure the sustainability of IYCF activities at grass root level in the assigned intervention district.
Responsibilities:
- Provide mothers with practical advice on correct attachment and positioning when breastfeeding, timely introduction of complementary foods and respond to any concerns or local taboos associated with IYCF.
- Ensure a comfortable, calm environment for counselling sessions and maintain good relationships with the beneficiaries.
- Strength the capacity of community health workers though facilitating orientation and in-service mentoring on IYCF at each health facilities who are expected to have active participation on IYCF activities
- Provide tailored one to one counselling sessions, based on initial assessments, offering practical advice and education to mothers on the key issues of infant and Young child feeding practices.
- Perform close monitoring of all beneficiaries, including follow up checks with Community Health Workers (CHWs) and summaries of total number of mothers attended to.
Qualifications:
- Diploma preferably in nursing, Midwifery, Nutrition and related field
- Minimum three years’ experience with INGO/LNGO of Infant and young Child Feeding practices /treatment of malnourished children in Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) is advantageous
- Good knowledge of written and spoken English and local language
- High commitment to work with pastoral communities in remote and challenging environments
