The position is responsible for supporting the Director of Corporate Services in proving advice and expertise on a range of advocacy and outreach issues, methods and approaches for LGAZ, to the Executive Director. Providing sound advice and services in dealing with matters concerning LGAZ and local government generally as well as creating a positive public image of local government.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Regular development of relevant content on local government for dissemination through press releases, newsletter, news flash, social media, website and other channels.
  • Ensure content dissemination of key messages is aligned with LGAZ’s lobby and advocacy strategy as regards profiling of local government.
  • Serve as LGAZ’s media liaison person.
  • Organize press briefings and conferences.
  • Regular scanning of print and electronic media to keep abreast with latest media trends on local government and preparation of appropriate responses, where necessary.
  • Manage LGAZ’s social media profile and presence.
  • Prepare appropriate communication and advocacy material on relevant issues pertaining to LGAZ and local government generally.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Director Corporate Services.

Job Requirements

  • Diploma in communication/media-related fields. A degree in similar fields is an added advantage.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a busy office.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of local government operations.
  • Ability to synthesize diverse information on local government from varied sources.
  • Ability to develop clear and concise written communication on matters affecting local government.
  • Knowledge of website/social media platform development and maintenance.
  • Proficient in the English language.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team.
