IOM Zimbabwe: Data Collector


IOM Zimbabwe Mission was established in 1985. Since then IOM has grown tremendously. IOM Zimbabwe is recognised by the Government of Zimbabwe as the principal international inter-governmental organization addressing the entire spectrum of migration issues.

IOM Zimbabwe has an exemplary track record in provision of technical assistance on migration management, emergency response, food distribution, HIV interventions, health management, protection of migrants’ rights, and dissemination of safe migration information.

IOM Zimbabwe has operational presence in 26 of the country’s 59 districts, across all the country’s provinces. With its head offices in Harare, IOM has sub offices in Beitbridge, Bulawayo, Mutare, Nyamapanda and Plumtree.

 

POSITION: DATA COLLECTOR – (BASELINE AND IMPACT ASSESSMENT)

Under the overall supervision of the Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for data collection through carrying out interviews with heads of households in selected communities where IOM has previously implemented projects and in sites where IOM has ongoing interventions. The Baseline and Impact Assessment data will contribute towards IOM’s evidence based programming in Zimbabwe.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist the Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator in the recruitment of research participants;
  • Collect data through administering questionnaires (face-to-face interviews) with subjects in accordance with predetermined interview protocols, data collection procedures and documentation standards in compliance with IOM data protection policy.
  • Collect and record data and/or samples as appropriate to the specific objectives of the study and enter data into a computer database and/or spreadsheet application for subsequent analysis.
  • Maintain set numerate and quality targets and submit all data collected to the Supervisor within the agreed timeframe
  • Ensure accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary in compliance with IOM data protection policy.
  • Perform other duties as determined by the supervisor;

  • Skill in the use of computer spreadsheet and/or database applications in the compilation of research data.
  • Effectively coordinates actions with the Supervisor and other team members

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE

  • First degree in Social Science or a related field;
  • Excellent understanding of survey and data collection methods;
  • Field experience;
  • Experience working with the public and data collection in data collection and or research;
  • Prior work experience on migration related issues an added advantage;
  • Experience in the usage of office software packages (MS Word, Excel, SPSS etc.)

LANGUAGES

  • Thorough knowledge of English is a prerequisite.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • The duration of the contract is 35 days. A daily allowance is offered.
