Ipas Zambia Job Vacancy: Country Director
Ipas Zambia is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending preventable deaths and disabilities from unsafe abortions. Through local, national and global partnerships, Ipas works to ensure women can obtain safe, respectful and comprehensive abortion care; including counselling and contraception to prevent unintended pregnancies.
We are currently seeking for qualified candidates for the following position of:
Country Director
The Country Director provides leadership and management oversight for a program or portfolio of programs and research overseeing strategic and operations initiatives and delivery. Functions as primary organization representative for the country and ensures strong collaboration with local government, international donors and sponsors, and partners. Interacts with other sectors to integrate and manage work plans, budgets, and multi-sector interventions. Implements evidence based interventions in one or more multi-sector areas, as well as new technologies and practices.
In addition, this position may represent the organization when advocating for Ipas’s missions and programs at regional events, donors meetings and partner NGO gatherings.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the implementation and delivery of Ipas country programs by leading the in country team, working with the global teams and other parties as needed
- Represents Ipas and advocates for women’s reproductive health and rights at national, regional and international conferences and events
- Builds partnerships with government and other private and social sector organizations, both at national and regional level, and advocates for policies and programs that maximize impact and resources to further women’s reproductive health and the Ipas mission
- Provides leadership and vision in development and implementation of Ipas policy initiatives, and act as a spoke-person of the organization in these settings
- Assess opportunities and develops projects, obtaining inputs from other team members including Ipas technical units and regional colleagues
- Provides leadership in Organizational fund raising efforts through identifying funding opportunities for Ipas Africa Alliance in line with Ipas Vision, Mission and Strategic Objectives.
- Represents Ipas with donors at the regional and/or country level, oversees and coordinates the resource mobilization strategy
- Builds awareness of the organization and promotes communication of issues and accomplishments to the public
- Identifies and evaluates risk to the organization’s people in Zambia, property, finances, goodwill and image and implements measures to control risk
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years with project management experience and previous experience as a Country Manager or Director for an international NGO
- Comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts, and practices in project management, process development and execution
- Excellent and demonstrated public relations, policy, representation, and diplomacy skills required
- Demonstrated experience in successfully delivering sector specific or multi-sector project management and implementation
- Demonstrated strategic planning, staff development and capacity building experience
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex projects that are strategic in nature and national/international in scope
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills to strategize, plan, and manage resources for successful completion of projects
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong consultative and negotiation skills
- Ability to motivate, influence and collaborate with others
- Ability to build positive working relationships with local communities, district/state/national government officials, UN and other multilateral bodies and donor representatives
- Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English and fluent in host country language.

Education
Master’s Degree or international equivalent knowledge in the following
- Information Services
- Communications, Education, Environment, and Health
- Life/Social Sciences International Development
- Human Development or Related Field
Certifications Preferred
- Certification in project management
- Qualification in Humanitarian action
- Project Cycle Management or Monitoring and Evaluation
