Job Title: Loan Officer

Supervisor: Finance Coordinator

Category: Staff

1. General Summary

Reporting to the Care Cooperative Finance Coordinator (FC), the Loan Officer is responsible for the daily loans processing, credit appraisal and portfolio management of the Loans department.

2. Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, analyze and appraise all loan applications in line with the laid down procedures
  • Processes early settlement/offsets request and enters them in the system
  • Approving all the loans in the system once they have been approved by the loans committee
  • Follow up on all member queries with loans assistant to ensure efficiency on feedback to members
  • Monitor repayments of non- regular loans to ensure owing members are able to settle the agreed amounts to avoid an occurrence of default.
  • Submission of monthly payroll input to contact persons of member organizations
  • Reconciles payment schedule received from member organizations and enters the data into the system to enable reconciliation and update of individual member’s records.
  • Preparation of week/monthly departmental reports
  • Generate a report on all Loans in arrears, make necessary follow-ups and compiles a weekly activity report for management’s attention
  • Recommend to management write-offs on bad debts that are not recoverable according to the debt policy and produce a status report.
  • Obtain a DDACC reconciliation report and follow up on all bounced DDACCs to ensure that loans are paid for as per loan repayment terms.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by management.

3 Education and Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Banking, Accountancy, Economics, Business Administration or in any Business related field or equivalent qualification.

4 Experience

  • At least 4 years’ relevant experience. Experience in the Banking/Microfinance/SACCO Sector will be an added advantage.

5 Competencies

  • Proficiency in MS Applications. Experience with an accounting package especially Navision 2016 will be an added advantage. Numerical/Computation skills with excellent analytical and decision making skills. Self- motivated and a team player with the ability to work under pressure
