Zambia National Commercial Bank Plc (Zanaco) is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the following position aimed at contributing to the Bank’s strategic vision, under the Risk Division at Head Office:

RISK MANAGEMENT HEAD

JOB PURPOSE

The position is responsible for the Bank wide operational risk activities associated with the Bank’s business activities consistent with the Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management and Operational Risk Management frameworks respectively.

Under the supervision of the Head Enterprise Risk Management, the following are among the Job’s key responsibilities:-

  • Responsible for assisting the Head ERM in setting strategic risk direction and implementing enterprise wide risk and operational policies for business divisions within the Bank.
  • Responsible for assisting with the ongoing development and implementation of risk policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining the Bank’s risk profile, including a Risk Appetite Statement that includes financial tolerance and risk appetite levels.
  • Preparation of an ongoing risk assessment, with proper development of monitoring and testing.
  • Implementing a process to establish line of business accountability.
  • Managing the Risk mitigation and escalation and reporting processes.
  • Responsible for ongoing development and implementation of entity wide risk and operational risk management issues, including such things as being the subject matter expert on operational risk activities associated with risks, controls, testing, remediation and reporting.
  • Provide direction and deliver training to line of business personnel, Risk Management staff and others on entity wide and operational risk best practices and other industry best practices.
  • Provide assistance in ensuring that policies & procedures and associated Risk Management programs are consistent with current applicable rules, regulations and laws.
  • Provide authoritative and consultative advice and support to management and employees.
  • Analyze and provide feedback around risks associated with the offering of new and/or enhanced products, services, processes, business initiatives and outsourced third party activities.
  • Provide assistance in the response to internal and external audits and requests for information. Assist in the evaluation of audit and examination findings and implementation of corrective action and needed responses.
  • Any other duties and tasks as may be assigned by management

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 Credits Grade 12 Certificate including Mathematics and English
  • University Degree in Business Management or Financial Accounting or business professional qualification related to risk management
  • At least 5 years ERM or Operational Risk or any other relevant risk management experience
  • Banking experience will be an added advantage with knowledge of banking systems and processing activities etc.
  • Be familiar with the risk process of identifying risks in the business, as well as the causes/ mitigating controls for the risks.

JOB CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to challenge business lines regarding all aspects of risk arising from the Bank’s activities.
  • Ability to assess, analyse risk and develop business and management risk reports to include risk aggregation, trending, outliers involving both qualitative and quantitative data
  • Develop detailed business process plans and execute on those plans
  • Good judgment enabling the provision of sound advice in areas of risk and the proactive management of identified potential risk
  • Strong leadership, excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to establish relationships and exert influence at senior management level.
