Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 130Mt of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 140,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a thirty-seven (37) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Grade Control Modelling Coordinator.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Geology Superintendent, you will be responsible for the provision of all Grade Control modelling activities, geological data management and QA/QC sample management in Acquire.
Responsibilities
- Plan and optimize all in pit RC grade control drilling
- Ensure accurate and representative RC grade control sample collection.
- Establish, monitor and control QA/QC performance of RC grade control samples.
- Develop and perform the monthly mine to laboratory QA/QC reconciliation process in conjunction with the Geology Superintendent.
- Ensure the delivery of validated data (chemical assay and spatial) to database.
- Ensure accurate collection of geotechnical and grade face mapping data.
- Compilation of validated electronic data.
- Ensure sectional interpretation of geological, geotechnical and grade domains.
- Delivery of validated wire framing data of geological, geotechnical and grade domains.
- Grade interpolation and grade estimation resulting in the delivery of the grade control model on a scheduled timely basis.
- Develop and coordinate monthly mine to mill reconciliation process in conjunction with the Geology Superintendent.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of mining geology experience in a large open pit operation with prior experience in supervising professional and technical personnel
- Bachelor of Mineral Science (Geology major)
- Conversant with Vulcan and Whittle software
- An overriding commitment to health, safety and environmental management
- Demonstrated initiative, ability to influence and achieve required results
- Commitment to impart your mining operations and technical knowledge
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) and/or a recognized Professional Body
