Caritas Chipata is a faith based organization, established by the Catholic Diocese of Chipata to promote integral human development, economic justice, human dignity and empowerment of the less privileged in the society. The Organisation seeks to employ qualified persons to fill the following position;

Position Title:  Health and Nutrition Field Supervisor

Work station: Within the community: Petauke &Katete

Number of position: Eight

Primary responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the Health and Nutrition Field Supervisor is to supervise the day to day performance of the health promoters in the implementation of Health and Nutrition activities. Health and Nutrition Field Supervisors will spend three days per week in the field, conducting training, supervisory and monitoring activities.

Job responsibilities:

  • Train health promoters in essential nutrition actions and other health, hygiene and nutrition topics. Also conduct refresher trainings for health promoters.
  • Review and adapt/adopt as necessary health, hygiene and nutrition messages for agriculture and SILC field agents. Train agriculture and SILC field agents in these messages.
  • Help develop selection criteria for nutrition volunteers.
  • Supervise 5 or 6 health promoters; conduct accompanying supervisory visits to each health promoter at least once per month providing constructive feedback to health promoters to ensure the quality of services.
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluation activities, as required.
  • Work closely with Technical Quality Coordinators in training field agents on health and nutrition related topics.
  • Collect, synthesize and share reports for M&E from the health promoters and nutrition volunteers.
  • Support and supervise health promoters and nutrition volunteers in the identification of CCFLS participants and in the implementation of the sessions to ensure compliance with guidelines..
  • Support health promoters in conducting community-wide health, hygiene and nutrition events.
  • Ensure linkages and coordination between agriculture, income/assets, gender, and health/nutrition program technical components.
  • Ensure health promoters and nutrition volunteers are referring children with moderate or severe under-nutrition correctly for recuperative services.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of diploma/certificate in public health or nutrition.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in health, hygiene and/or nutrition activities or related technical discipline, with at least 1 year experience in technical capacity with another NGO.
  • Training in health or nutrition with experience in community development will be considered. Previous experience in health behaviour change for improved household nutrition is desired.
  • Experience working with health facilities.
  • Knowledgeable about essential nutrition actions, growth monitoring and promotion, pre- and post-natal care, child health and pre-natal cards, and behaviour change methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, facilitation and coordination skills.
  • Experience leading and inspiring people.
  • Ability to transfer knowledge through trainings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of local languages preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within communities, while being sensitive to gender and local customs.
  • Well-known and respected in communities.
  • Clean record on child protection and domestic violence related issues (local chief to attest).
  • Must be able to ride a motorbike for extended periods of time.
  • Willingness to be based in the field and travel to visit with health promoters, Care Groups, project beneficiaries, and partners as needed.
  • Must have a valid motorbike riding license.
