PROGRAMME SPECIALIST – RESEARCH AND NEW INITIATIVES

Purpose of job

As a member of the programme team in general and the Research and New Initiatives Team in particular, and under the team leadership of the Manager- Research and New Initiatives, the Programme Specialist – Research and New Initiatives will provide support to ZGF’s new initiatives, knowledge management and research function.

Main duties

Works with the Programme Team to identify potential research topics in relation to ZGF’s social accountability agenda and which are of interest for ZGF’s current and future work
Provides support to projects or programmes implemented by the Programme Team to ensure they are effectively utilised in ZGF’s knowledge management system
Participates in the design of research aimed at scanning the community of practice at local and international level
Assists with the organisation and implementation of research and contributes to the development of instruments and tools in support of ZGF’s social accountability agenda
Analyses and interprets research findings and identifies potential key areas to be targeted by ZGF

Supports the Programme Team to have access to information necessary for ZGF to deliver quality service to its Grant Partners and to meet the ZGF’s organisational goals
Works with the Programme Team to maintain ZGF’s social accountability database and website, creates contents which are thoroughly researched and in line with current social accountability thinking, and ensures its integration into the ZGF programme
Contributes to the monitoring and evaluation of new initiatives, research and social accountability programmes
Contributes to wider knowledge management, corporate communications and ICT activities and online platform management
Provides accurate information required for performance management purposes, attends performance management discussions and overall organisational growth
Keeps abreast of developments in area of specialization in order to continue to provide services to the highest ethical and professional standards
Carries out any related tasks that the Manager may from time to time reasonably request.
Education and training: Minimum Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience or Master’s degree in social sciences, political science, public administration / policy, economics or equivalent and three years of relevant experience

Decision making responsibility: Decisions made are within clear guidelines with limited discretion to depart from them

Work complexity: The job involves analysis and identification of new initiatives based on available information. The job requires high analytical and interpretive skills.

Responsibility for resources: No major resources under direct care but becomes accountable for resources in use.

Representation: Interacts with internal and external staff at different levels

Physical work environment: Office environment, some travel and constant use of computer

Work experience: 5 years relevant experience required
