Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) http://www.cidrz.org/ is a Zambian NGO improving the health of Zambians by conducting locally-relevant research, providing technical support and training, and strengthening primary healthcare provision systems in the areas of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and other infectious diseases, women’s health, and newborn and child health. CIDRZ has been an active partner of the Government of the Republic of Zambia since 2001 through collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other line Ministries. CIDRZ now wishes to recruit:
Research Manager – TB Ref No. RM/TB/27/07/15 Lusaka x1
Reports to the Director – TB Programs. The incumbent works with study teams on all aspects of study conduct including: grant writing, study planning, regulatory approvals, protocol development and implementation, budgeting, reporting, data analysis and manuscript writing.
Main duties
  • Provides training, guidance and mentoring to study coordinators and other research staff
  • Works with study coordinators to develop and implement study policies and procedures.
  • Leads, with Principal Investigators in grant writing, budgeting, editing and submission; and liaises with Grants and Contracts staff and other CIDRZ departments as required
  • Prepares and monitors regulatory submissions for assigned research studies
  • Designs and monitors data collection and storage systems for individual studies
  • Prepares progress reports.
  • Assists with planning, writing, editing and submission of abstracts/manuscripts and other dissemination activities
  • Presents abstracts and papers at national, regional and international meetings
  • Communicates with fellow staff members openly and honestly about study progress, issues, and/or problems that may arise
Qualifications
Required:
  • Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) or equivalent (e.g. MSc, MS in a health science)
  • At least two years’ experience in clinical research management
  • Excellent report writing skills, budgeting and computer skills
  • Training in Protection of Human Subjects and Good Clinical Practices
Preferred:
  • Familiarity with regulatory procedures in Zambia
  • Data management skills and familiarity with MS Access, MS Excel software
  • Data analysis experience and intermediate level of proficiency with SAS, SPSS or STATA software
  • Basic understanding of TB/HIV epidemiology, diagnostics, and clinical care.
