Job Title: Schools and Community Engagement Officer
 Schools Promoting Learning Achievements through Sanitation and Hygiene (SPLASH II), Zambia
Position Description
Plan is seeking applicants for a proposed Schools and Community Engagement Officer for an anticipated USAID-funded Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program in Zambia. The officer will report to Plan’s field manager for WASH initiatives centered on school-led water, sanitation and hygiene education, menstrual hygiene management, behavior change, and institutional strengthening. This position is contingent upon award of the project by the donor.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate WASH program activities with district level government, traditional community leaders, school administrators, and parents.
  • Support gathering of detailed and accurate technical deliverables and reports to fulfill USAID donor reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate technical activities with the USAID Zambia mission, partners, sub-recipients, government agencies, international and local NGOs, and community organizations.
  • Ensure the timely and quality completion of program technical deliverables and reports in accordance with USAID guidelines.
  • Liaise and coordinate with other related projects and activities ongoing in Zambia, including Plan’s ongoing programs.
  • Work closely with other project technical experts on all project activities.
  • Ensure Plan’s Child Protection Policy and Guidelines are adhered to during project implementation.
Key Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in International/Community Development or a related field.
  • Progressively responsible, relevant experience working within the WASH sector in Zambia.
  • Significant experience in relevant program management or technical advisory roles in complex WASH projects in Zambia’s Eastern Province.
  • Knowledge of community-level challenges impacting Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene systems delivery.
  • Experience with USAID-funded projects preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge about gender and development, and demonstrated experience working on programs that mainstream gender.
  • Proven leadership, inter-personal and cross-cultural skills, and ability to work within diverse teams.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills; knowledge of Eastern Province local languages, Nyanja, Tumbuka, Chewa and  Nsenga  .
