John Snow Health Zambia Limited is Recruiting: Knowledge Management Specialist


Background: 

John Snow Health Zambia (JSH) with support from USAID through the eSCMIS Project will continue assisting the Government of the Republic of Zambia in the rollout of a next-generation electronic supply chain management information system (eSCMIS). The eSCMIS Project aims to increase the use of health services, decrease disease burden and increase quality of life through ensuring appropriate quantities and quality of health commodities are available at health facilities to meet patient demands. Continuing the rollout of and provision of technical support to the existing electronic logistics management information system (eLMIS) will enable a seamless transition from the activities being done under predecessor projects. Establishing public private partnerships to promote sustainability and eSCMIS transition to the government are key objectives in Zambia during this 5-year project plan. The eSCMIS Project will work closely with and in support of the Ministry of Health.

JSH seeks a dynamic and highly experienced candidate for the position of Knowledge Management Specialist to be based in Lusaka, Zambia. The Knowledge Management Specialist will report to the DCOP and help in achievement of project goals and objectives.

S/he will execute a communications strategy through which project results and achievements will be communicated at key communication opportunities in a timely manner for a wide variety of audiences including project partners and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Specific Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Understand the donor’s communications and outreach strategy and expected project contributions; liaise with donor through the Chief of Party to regularly provide program information to support their communications and outreach objectives;
  • Develop a communications strategy for the eSCMIS project in Zambia for the successful dissemination of materials, including but not limited to a monthly eLMIS Press Newsletter, success stories and best practices, program one-pagers, technical manuals and curricula, reports, project news for the project website, and other social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Blogs, etc., and other documents as outlined in the communications strategy to reach key audiences and/or identified by the directors following established deadlines;
  • Work in close collaboration with technical staff and the communications team in the U.S to ensure the creation of appropriate messaging, content, as well as high quality production of all communications materials;
  • Gather, compile and disseminate data and information from technical staff and stakeholders at the MOH, Medical Stores Limited (MSL) and implementing partners; plan and coordinate all editorial, public awareness activities, and logistics for the production of these communications materials in close collaboration with the JSI communications team in the U.S. paying close attention to audience preferences for receiving information;
  • Track all relevant international, regional, and national conferences and support program staff to develop abstracts; manage and coordinate program conferences and other high profile events;
  • Maintain an e-filing system/database that stores and tracks project documents and publications;
  • Ensure all communications and project materials are branded in accordance with JSH and eSCMIS project guidelines;
  • Work with the admin team and relevant technical staff to plan high profile events to include media, entertainment and high level participants;
  • Work alongside the Management Information Systems Director to produce eLMIS required documentation e.g. training guides, job aides, etc;
  • Coordinate in-house training sessions for project staff regarding the importance of communication and documentation, writing success stories, and how to integrate communications into their work;
  • Coordinate timely printing and distribution of quality communication materials;
  • Coordinate photography among staff and act as project photographer and videographer at project events and during site visits whilst ensuring all photographs have an accompanying consent form and are captioned;
  • Regularly gather information, format and edit project success stories for publication
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the DCOP.

Qualifications: 

Applicants for this position should possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Degree in communications or journalism and/or appropriate training with experience in communications / technical writing, preferably in public health or related area
  • Experience in international development, public health, or non-profit setting in communications or information dissemination
  • An eye for a good story and the ability to turn complex concepts into engaging content
  • Creating social media posts and writing for the web, for non-technical audiences
  • Experience in technical writing (graphic design skillset would be an added advantage)
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in communications and public relations
  • Ability to work independently within a multi-cultural team in a fast-paced environment, managing several assignments and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in computer packages relevant to the work (MS Office including Publisher, Adobe Creative Suite or other Design Programs)
  • Ability to produce well written documents in English language a must
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Team player

Desirable Attributes: 

  • Knowledge of print, web, graphics and email dissemination.
  • Familiarity with HIV/AIDS in Zambia
  • Ability to prepare and present health and supply chain-related information.
  • Experience working with the Government of Zambia i.e. Ministry of Health and NGOs.
  • Previous work experience with USAID-funded projects

Supervision and reporting: 

The Knowledge Management Specialist will work under the guidance and supervision of Deputy Chief of Party.
