Kariba Minerals Limited is a mining company and has long been a reliable source of high-quality Amethyst for major manufacturers of gemstone related products. The company is owned 100% by ZCCM Investment Holdings. The company’s market share is estimated at over 90% of the Amethyst originating from Zambia, and we are arguably the largest single Amethyst producer in the world. Presently, the company exports its products mainly to international markets. Worldwide, it is one of the oldest mines for semi-precious stones and one of the largest sources of quality amethysts. Kariba mine is based in Mapatizya which is approximately 110km from Kalomo in the Southern Province.

The company is, therefore, inviting applications from highly motivated, result-oriented, qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacancy:

HEAD FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION

Key Responsibilities:

a) Preparing year-end statutory accounts and quarterly financial results for reporting to the Board in accordance with international financial reporting standards (IFRS)

b) Reporting on business performance and future business outlook

c) Ensure effective management and control of cash to facilitate timely and accurate payments to creditors and statutory obligations

d) Developing cash flow projections for mining projects for consideration by senior m management and the Board

e) Liaising with bankers, auditors, insurance brokers, creditors, and statutory bodies

f) Overseeing export processes

g) Treasury management and arranging bank facilities like letters of credit

h) Coordinating and preparing annual budgets and effectively monitoring annual work plans arising from the budget

i) Ensure sound controls and procedures are in place and continuously reviewed for effective operation and that substantiating documentation is approved and available such that all purchases may pass independent and group audits reviews

j) Managing and overseeing all administration issues

k) Supervising the administration staff, supporting staff development and raising awareness and knowledge of financial management matters

l) Closely monitoring mine operating costs highlighting significant variances during month end reporting and advising on remedial measures on variances

m) Work with the General Manager/ CEO and Board on the strategic vision including fostering and cultivating stakeholder relationships on city, state, and national levels, as well as assisting in the development and negotiation of contracts

n) Drafting of prospective programmatic budgets, and determining cost effectiveness of prospective service delivery

o) Oversee the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization including: organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, reports to funding agencies, development and monitoring of organizational and contract/grant budgets

p) Attend Board and Subcommittee meetings; including being the lead staff on the Audit/Finance Committee

q) Monitor banking activities of the company

r) Serve as one of the trustees and oversee administration and financial reporting of the organization’s employee pension scheme

s) Ensures the filing of all legal and regulatory documents and monitors compliance with relevant laws and regulations

t) Represent the Company in negotiations with customers, suppliers, government departments and other key contacts to secure the most effective operations of the business

u) Oversee the preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts of the Company and ensure their approval by the Board

v) Attending to all company affairs in the absence of the General Manager / CEO

w) Any other duties as may be assigned by the company

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Full Grade 12 certificate coupled with Full ACCA/CIMA/ZICA/ Degree in accounting
  • Master’s Degree in business studies will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years working experience at senior level.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
  • An aptitude for quantitative analysis, strategic and tactical thinking, and detailed planning.
  • Evidence of ability to innovate and implement change successfully.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Driven and committed to success while maintaining integrity.

Salary: Negotiable

Location: Lusaka and will be required to travel from time to time
