Background of Kasanka Trust

Kasanka Trust Ltd. (KTL) manages Kasanka National Park (KNP) in partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW). KTLs work includes resource protection, community development, environmental education, and toursim.

Organisation structure and management

The KTL headquarters are located within KNP, Chitambo District, Central Province. The Fundraiser will be part of the management team, but based in Lusaka, with frequent visits to the park. The Fundraiser will report to the General Manager.

Position: Fund Raiser and Communication Officer

Core Responsibilities

The Officer’s core responsibilities will be to (a) increasing the number of sister trusts and establishing an offshore endowment with the most appropriate trust, (b) formalising partnerships to channel partners’ energy toward KTL’s vision, (c) establishing a “biodiversity offset bank” available to various energy and mine investors in Zambia, and (d) mobilising tools such as crowd sourcing, corporate social responsibility, calls for financing and large institutional grants such as GEF, Ford Foundation, etc. For more information on the specific ToR, please contact [email protected].

Required Qualifications and Experience

A bachelor level education with preference for degree in marketing, advertising or communications or similar; Solid experience in fundraising and grant writing with demonstrated prior success in fundraising for an organization similar to KTL; Demonstrate significant experience in communication with modern tools; Skills: Excellent English writing skills (need to submit sample of document written); Skills: Proficient in all mainstream software as well as desktop publishing and website-creation software and social media.

Optional but Desired Qualifications and Experience

Outgoing personality, prepared to travel extensively, etc.; Knowledge of Zambia, parks, other languages, a network of potential financiers, etc.; Good contacts with funders, government departments and other NGOs.

Important Additional Requirements

Willingness to travel frequently and work in a remote area with less than optimal living and working conditions; Prepared to work closely with the senior management staff in Kasanka National Park and the KTL Board of Trustees.
