First Quantum Minerals Ltd. is an established and growing mining and metals company currently operating four mines and developing projects worldwide. Our aim is to become a globally diversified mining and metals company.
We currently produce copper cathode, copper in concentrate, nickel, gold and sulphuric acid.
First Quantum’s current operations are the Kansanshi copper-gold mine in Zambia, the Guelb Moghrein copper-gold mine in Mauritania, the Kevitsa nickel-copper-PGE mine in Finland and the Ravensthorpe nickel-cobalt mine in Australia.
When our current projects are in operation, we expect we will be able to triple our annual copper production capacity and be positioned within the world’s 10 largest copper producers.
Sentinel is the first mine to be developed at the Trident project in the North Western Province of Zambia. The project comprises five large-scale mining licences and significant geological potential exists for expansion of operations, including the Enterprise nickel mine announced in December 2012. First Quantum is investing US$1.725-billion at the Sentinel mine and construction remains on time and on budget. Plant commissioning will commence in mid-2014 and copper production is expected reach 280 – 300,000 tonnes per annum.
Positions: Diesel mechanic
Key Responsibilities:
Field and workshop maintenance and repairs
• Carry out breakdown maintenance of medium sized vehicles in the field or workshop (where relevant) in a timely and cost effective manner
• Reporting of fault finding and root cause analysis
• Carry out planned maintenance of medium sized vehicles according to planned maintenance schedules
• Reporting of planned maintenance and root cause analysis of any unscheduled work carried out during planned maintenance
• Ensure warranties are upheld
Planning and Scheduling
• Carry out weekly plans; provide coaching and mentoring to each team member as required.
• Provide input to weekly plans to ensure that they are realistic and achievable.
• Ensure that all relative documentation for planned maintenance and breakdowns are completed and submitted to the Workshop Supervisor in a timely and accurate manner.
• Provide input to forward planning from your peers to ensure it is catered for in the forward planning schedule.
• Attend meetings with internal and external service providers when requested
• Contribute to the development of the Section Capital and Operating budgets when requested
Continuous Improvement
• Provide input into continuous improvement through root cause analysis and liaison with operations personnel including operators/drivers.
• Provide input from the workshop floor on processes and support to the MV Workshop Supervisor.
Supervision
• Provide leadership and mentoring for all your team members, including ongoing training and development, performance management, conflict management and crisis management.
• Escalate incidents when necessary to the Workshop Supervisor
• Ensure that team members have clear directions of daily work and targets.
Liaison
• Actively participate in all relevant mechanical activities, workshop planning meetings, toolbox meetings and any other activities as necessary to promote excellence in communications.
• Provision of mechanical technical advice for existing plant / equipment and development projects. Fault finding and failure analysis.
Safety
• Ensure that all work is carried out according to mine safety standards and procedures
• Train staff on mine safety standards
• Continuous on the job risk analysis
Qualifications:
• Mechanical certificate or diploma
Experience and Skills:
• At least 8 – 10 years mechanical experience with medium vehicles preferably in a mining environment or similar
• Experience with Cummins generators, Mercedes Benz Trucks, Iveco trucks, mobile cranes in general, busses and all lighting plants, water pumps, hydraulic forklifts
• Light vehicles experience is an advantage Toyota.
• Experience with mobile cranes is a distinct advantage
• Some auto electrical knowledge or exposure
• MV hydraulic experience is required with Crane,Forklift and Manlifts. Hydraulics being an advantage
