Support for the Limpopo Basin workshop

Background
In the framework of cooperation between the Italian Government and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Italian Development Cooperation Technical Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UNCCD Secretariat/Global Mechanism are implementing the project Strengthening Technical Support to the Special Initiative for Africa in the Limpopo Basin. The project aims to ensure the sustainable utilization of natural resources in the Limpopo river basin for benefiting the livelihoods of population leaving in fragile and/or degraded landscapes.
Among the key expected outputs of the project are:
- A Decision Support System to provide a systemic and objective analytical base toward coherent and synergistic implementation of the three Rio Conventions; and
- An Investment and financing framework for Sustainable Land Management in the Limpopo Basin.
Both project outputs are available and will be presented and discussed during a sub- regional workshop bringing together governmental representatives from countries located in the Limpopo Basin, i.e. South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia as well as from interested international organizations. The objective of the consultancy is to provide technical and administrative support for the organization of above mentioned workshop.
Consultant’s Tasks
Under the supervision of the LLSR Programme Coordinator, and in cooperation with the project partners and workshop task force, the consultant will support
- The preparation of the workshop agenda
- The review and finalization of workshop documents to be presented during the workshop
- The preparation of an information note to be shared with workshop participants
- The preparation of invitation letters to be sent to workshop participants
- The preparation and monitoring of the budget allocated to the workshop
- The liaison with the UNCCD Secretariat for issuing tickets for workshop participants
- The liaison with the host government to monitor logistical preparations at the workshop venue
- The facilitation of technical and administrative arrangements during the workshop
- The elaboration of the technical and financial report after the workshop.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Expected outputs
- Workshop relevant documents available and disseminated
- Workshop budget monitored
- Liaison ensured between workshop partners, including Italian Development Cooperation, UNCCD secretariat and GM, host government, SADC and Proges Consulting
- Administrative arrangements made and monitored All outputs to be provided in English.
Contractual Terms
Consultancy for the period of three months, from 20 July to 30 September 2015, including one mission to attend the workshop. Duty station will be Rome, Italy.
Qualifications
- University degree in natural resource management or related field
- Experience in organizing international workshops or similar events
- Knowledge of the areas of work and working modalities of the UNCCD
- Professional fluency of English
