Job Title: Safety and SOP Compliance Coordinator
Location: Lumwana Mine, Solwezi, Zambia.
Reporting to: Mining Training Superintendent
Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Safety and SOP compliance Coordinator
Role Summary
Reporting to the Mining Training Superintendent, the successful candidate will lead the team of Shift Safety and SOP Compliance officers in driving the development and implementation of Safety and Operating standards as well as assisting in the monitoring of compliance to the Safety and Operating Standards. Your duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

Manage the process of SOP development and implementation within the mining department as well as with mining business partners

Facilitate and monitor the process of incident reporting from first occurrence to close out of all corrective actions.

Responsible for reporting of all mining department safety statistics and the accuracy thereof.

Form part of safety audit teams and perform regular audits in the mine against agreed procedures.

Conduct regular safety inspections of the mining area including equipment and infrastructure

Report and document all safety matters within the mining department

Develop and review SOPs, PTOs, flash sheets and assessments

Ensure the development and maintenance of up to date Job procedures for all tasks performed within the function.

Monitor compliance on statutory regulations, supervisor check list, SOP`s and PTO`s in mining department.

Liaise with fatal risk site and departmental champions on the implementation of fatal risks lifesaving controls

Implement the site risk management process within the mining area such that line management is able to manage their hazards within their area of responsibility
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
-
Minimum of Diploma in mining engineering or safety related field

7 years’ experience in mining industry

Experience in safety and training in mining industry

Highly competent in incident/accident investigation

Confident communicator with senior management, legal entities and external stakeholders

Extensive experience in the implantation of OHSAS 18001 or similar systems
-
Advanced computer Skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing power point presentation and spreadsheet application

Must have a valid Zambian Blasting License

Member of the safety professional body
