The Lusaka Apex Medical University (LAMU) has the following job opportunity under the Faculty of Medical Radiation.

JOB TITLE: HEAD – M.Med CLINICAL ONCOLOGY

MAIN JOB PURPOSE:

To manage the academic and administrative functions of the Department of M.Med Clinical Oncology in order to provide sound Diploma, Bachelor of Science and Masters (M.Med) Oncology at the University.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Initiates and participates in the formulation/review of policies and preparation/review of workshop manuals and procedures and related documentation necessary to guide the activities and programs of the Department.
2. Implements approved departmental policies and procedures in accordance with set guidelines and standards to aid consistency and quality operations of the Department.
3. Prepares the Departmental budget proposal for submission to the Dean and thereafter, once approved, monitors budget performance to ensure expenditure is kept within approved limits.
4. Supervises teaching activities, including examinations, marking and publication of results at the Departmental level, ensuring that courses and programmes are meeting prescribed standards and deadlines.
5. Spearheads development and review of curricular with the aid Departmental and/other staff for all programmes offered by the Department to meet the demands of the Industry,
6. Processes applications for admissions for both undergraduate and post-graduate students in the Department coordinating the registration process of students at the Departmental level.
7. Initiates resource mobilization for and superintends overall research activities at the Departmental level, coordinating the dissemination of research results through media such as journals, conferences and seminars.
8. Enforces staff discipline in accordance with the provisions of the University Act and Disciplinary Code of Conduct at the Departmental level.
9. Chairs Departmental meetings and represents the Department on various Faculty Committees and other fora to exchange information, give and receive feedback and tackle issues for the good of the Department and the Faculty.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

• Effective communicator, tactful, and fair to be able to maintain good working relations in the faculties and cultivate rapport with members of the public.
• Confidentiality and willingness to work long hours.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to subordinates
• Organized and self-motivated.
• Proficient with MS packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, statistical packages and Powerpoint).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• MBChB, M.Med Oncology or Equivalent
• PhD in Oncology is an added advantage
• Experience in handling undergraduate and post-graduate students.
• Experience in research development, teaching, training and grant proposal writing.
• Minimum Post Qualification experience of 5 years.
