An optical clinic based in Ndola is looking to hire dynamic individuals for the positions of; Optometrist (x2), Optical Technician (x1) and Sales Executive (x1).

  1. Optometrist (x2)

Duties

  • Provide outpatient care for patients with eye-related disorders and conditions
  • Conduct routine eye examinations, including visual field tests
  • Determine each patient’s visual acuity, field of vision and hand-eye coordination
  • Take detailed medical histories for all patients, including current and past prescription medications
  • Evaluate eye-related symptoms, such as discharge, redness and inflammation
  • Prescribe corrective lenses when required
  • Advise patients about proper eye hygiene and care

Job Responsibilities

  • Document history including complaint and relevant symptoms, ocular health, medication usage, medical and family history, current vision aide if applicable, and any other pertinent data
  • Examine eyes using observation, pharmaceutical agents and instruments to determine visual perception, acuity, coordination and focus.
  • Clearly document diagnosis and treatment plan, including referrals, therapeutic prescriptions and long-term medical management, in patients’ charts
  • Prescribe and fit vision aides such as contact lenses and eyeglasses
  • Perform eye surgeries, such as laser vision correction and cataract, and provide pre- and post-operative care
  • Maintain communication with ophthalmology, optical and support staff in order to optimize quality clinical care and service

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) Diploma. Degree will be an added advantage
  • State optometric license
  • Minimum two years of work experience
  • Certified to use therapeutic pharmaceutical agents
  1. Optical Technician

The optical technician will prepare high-quality spectacles and lenses that meet the specifications on the prescription and to attend to all spectacle queries. The ideal candidate will be customer service oriented with excellent analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients with insertion, removal and care of contact lenses
  • Use measuring devices to take client measurements including bridge and eye sizes, vertex distance, papillary distance, temple length, optical eye centers for sizes for eyeglasses
  • Prepare work orders to the optical laboratory that relate to the grinding and mounting of lenses in the chosen frames
  • Verify finished lens spectacles match the optical prescription and order placed
  • Make adjustments to frame and lens position to fit a client’s facial structure; shape or reshape frames by heating, shaping or bending plastic and metal frames
  • Arrange and maintain optical merchandise displays
  • Maintain records of client prescriptions, payments and work orders sent to the laboratory
  • Verification of prescriptions with the examining ophthalmologist
  • Make recommendations for specific types of lenses, lens coatings and frames according to the clients’ needs
  • Handle administrative duties that include tracking inventory, recording sales, submitting patient insurance information, bookkeeping and client records
  • Fabricate lenses in accordance with prescription requirements

Qualifications

  • Trade certificate is preferred in drafting, art, science, mathematics, and computer technology can increase career opportunities.
  • Minimum of two years’ work experience
  • Be confident using computer-controlled machinery and software packages.
  • Be able to work quickly and accurately and meet exacting production standards.
  • Be able to understand prescriptions and produce lenses that meet individual specifications.
  • Have good communication and customer service skills
  1. Sales Executive

Responsibilities:

  • Source new clients and develop a client base for growth and profitability
  • Maintain an awareness of Company products and relevant sales techniques to ensure that sales of the whole organization are carried out effectively
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Sales management skills (prospecting, pitching, closing)
  • Strong Report writing ability
  • Excellent selling and communication skills
  • Demonstrate products and services to existing/potential customers and  assist them in selecting those best suited to their needs

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Marketing or Business related field
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience
  • Computer literate
  • Experience in a similar role will be an added advantage.
