The Zambia Alliance for Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH Alliance) is a coalition of civil society organizations that have come together to conduct joint advocacy activities aimed at contributing to the reduction of the rates of maternal, newborn and child mortality and morbidity. To address Zambia’s unacceptably high maternal and neonatal mortality, the MNCH Alliance is undertaking a project grounded in a vision of coordination and mobilization of MNCH partners to better respond to issues affecting the expectant mother, mothers of newborn and children under-five children. In this project, “MNCH CSO mobilisation and coalition strengthening”, the MNCH Alliance will work with selected CSOs at National and Provincial levels in Lusaka (Lusaka, Kafue and Sibuyunji) and Eastern (Chipata, Petauke, Nyimba and Mambwe).

The main focus is to strengthen citizen demand for quality services through mobilization and capacity building of CSOs in advocacy and engagement of Government and other duty bearers at National and Provincial level.

The Project will be implemented for a period of 12 months under the auspices of Zambia Alliance for Maternal, New Born and Child Health (MNCH Alliance).

MNCH Alliance is currently in the process of recruiting a Project Coordinator for the MNCH CSO mobilisation and coalition. The coalition seeks to strengthen engagement with policymakers, donors, and key government and nongovernmental partners working in Maternal Newborn and Child Health Issues. The position will be based in Lusaka at the Alliance for sustainable Development Offices as the project host.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinate activities for the MNCH Alliance.
  • Work with the Consultant in mapping of CSOs and other stakeholders in MNCH working in Eastern and Lusaka Provinces.
  • Coordinate strengthening CSOs capacity in Advocacy and grow the  MNCH Alliance through various engagements.
  • Facilitate a research on national budget allocation to maternal and newborn programs and flag them to the Alliance Executive for possible areas of collaboration.
  • Coordinate monthly and Quarterly meetings for the MNCH Alliance.
  • Document minutes and file the records for the MNCH alliance.
  • Engagement of Government and other duty bearers through discussions such as workshops and as well as media engagement.
  • Mobilize citizens at provincial and National levels to demand for better and effective MNCH service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with donor and Counterpart policies and guidelines.
  • Work with the MOH and the MNCH Alliance to develop project plans and monitor project schedule.
  • Track and report performance, including compiling summary reports on targets and performance measures.
  • Identify issues or risks which will inhibit successful implementation of the initiative and suggest mitigation factors.

Required Skills and Experience;

  • Degree in Development Studies or related Social Science discipline or a combination of Bachelor’s Degree and equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum three (03) years of experience and demonstrated skills in coordinating and managing projects with multiple objectives and associated activities.
  • At least two (02) years in a role that involved regular communication with external partners and joint planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with government institutions, large bilateral and multilateral institutions such as United Nations, and national and international nongovernmental organizations.
  • Experience working with the Zambian MOH at national and subnational levels and extensive knowledge of the Zambian health system is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a demonstrated capacity to solve problems with energy, flexibility, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated experience of designing and managing milestone-based projects within budget and time constraints.
  • Ability to work with various technologies (computers, mobile phones, etc.) and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including presentation, training, and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage several major activities simultaneously, and work in a complex environment with short deadlines.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Zambia
