The Company seeks the services of a ROCK MECHANICS ENGINEER x 1 (Mufulira).

Reporting to the Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following key activities:

  •  Continuous acquisition of Geotechnical data through core logging and discontinuity surveys.
  •  Conduct Geotechnical data analysis, interpretation and designs using available analytical and numerical geotechnical methods.
  •  Maintain weekly rock mechanics inspections of active development and production areas.
  •  Enforce operations compliance with Ground Control Management Plan.
  •  Conduct weekly reviews and analysis of the mine stope and development echelon to manage the ground control related risk to ensure sustained daily production.
  •  Maintain the Ground Control Management system through regular internal audits and reviews of the ground control standards.
  •  Maintain a cost-effective ground control system through regular audits of operational practices compliance to standards and recommendations.
  •  Maintain an updated Ground Control hazard register to ensure that geotechnical designs consider the current actual risk level
  •  Maintain effective communication with technical and operational staff on Ground Control Management.
  •  Train and develop subordinates towards their full potential to ensure sustained availability of competent engineering personnel.

To be considered for this position, one should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • 1 Grade 12 School Certificate
  • Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering/Geology.
  • Minimum of two (02) years’ geotechnical work experience in an underground/open pit metalliferous environment.
  • Be formally trained to use Map 3D for 3D stress analysis and a working knowledge of Rocscience geotechnical software (i.e. RocData, Dips, Unwedge, and RS2/Phase 2D).
  • Be competent to carry out Geotechnical field Mapping and Core logging.
  • 6 Have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Be computer literate. 8. Be registered with the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
  • Working knowledge of Mine Surpac and AutoCAD software and possession of Rock Engineering and Strata Control COM certificates would be an added advantage
