1. Background:

mothers2mothers is part of the USAID SAFE project that will be its digital client management system in order to scale up mobilization for services but also to create networks, linkages and referrals to ensure that mother-baby pairs get the services they need when they go to the health facility. The use of this digital client management system will include an electronic appointment diary will enable effective and efficient management of m2m clientele through follow up on due and late appointments.

The programs department at m2m Zambia seeks to engage mHealth DATA Assistants (mDAs) who will be under the supervision of the Provincial PMTCT Coordinator in the USAID SAFE Kabwe Office. The mDAs will support the Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator SI specific activities at facility level throughout the six districts that m2m operates with a specific focus on technical support of the facility based m2m staff. This will, in turn, contribute program delivery in the areas of Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV and AIDs (PMTCT), Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and child health (RMNCH)

2. Key responsibilities

The key responsibilities will be focused on, but not be limited to the following

  • Carry out an implementation of the m2m electronic client diary
  • Install and update the CommCare application and relevant software on tablets and phones
  • Ensure proper functioning of the phones at all times
  • Train facility-based staff on the use of tablets, phones, and CommCare
  • Ongoing supportive supervision and mentorship to facility-based staff
  • Weekly progress updates on supervision and roll out of CommCare
  • Participation in key M&E activities within m2m

3. Eligibility Criteria and Expected Qualifications

In order to be considered for the position, the applicant should meet the following criteria: General Criteria:

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge
  • General interest in mobile phone technology and familiarity with Android OS
  • Demonstrate the willingness to grow and learn through work experience and be willing to fully and actively participate in the learning experience in the organization
  • Willing and able to uphold m2m values; honesty, integrity, passion, dedication and diversity and Teamwork
  • Willingness to learn and ability to multi-task and apply practical problem-solving skills as needed,
  • Resilience and desire to persist when faced with challenges and remain calm in handling complex situations,
  • Good writing skills and outstanding communication skills,

Specific criteria for the candidate:

  • The applicant must have a University degree/diploma in any of the following fields: information technology, computer science
  • Candidate who holds other qualifications but have experience in digital health will be considered

Please note that the opportunity is for a fixed period of three months, no employment prospects will be guaranteed to the mHealth Data assistants i.e. the service rendered during this period will place no obligation on the organization to employ the mHealth Data assistants beyond this. The retention of research assistants after completion of the internship contract shall follow the organization’s recruitment policy and procedures. That is, if opportunities arise the process will be handled as normal appointment where the open advertisement of a vacancy applies.
