Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North-Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km southwest of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi-staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open-cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Supervisor Projects.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Coordinator – Projects, you will be responsible for daily supervision of operational projects as required and assisting the mining operation to focus on meeting the set production targets.

Your duties will include but not limited to the following:

Responsibilities

    • Directly responsible for the haul road maintenance.
  • Work in accordance with the project plan as defined and agreed for the specific work area.
  • Mentoring of employees in terms of good standard operating procedures.
  • Implementation of wet weather planning of haul road construction and maintenance.
  • Work closely with shift supervisors to maintain site safety standards i.e. windrow heights, road surfaces and dewatering.
  • Monitor the costs and productivities of the projects fleet
  • Report all defects on the mining equipment to the maintenance section
  • Provide the equipment to assist with the drill and blast cleanup.
  • Ensure all members of the team have clearly defined accountabilities and roles and that individual development plans are in place to enable goals to be achieved.
  • Take all necessary action to comply with statute, regulations, and Conditions of Approval within the scope of this position.

Experience & Qualifications

  • A full Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Minimum of Diploma in Mining Engineering.
  • Significant experience (5 years) in the open-pit mining industry
  • Ability to interpret and implement project/drilling plans and ensure quality control is maintained throughout the implementation process
  • Experience in large multi pit operations utilizing largescale mining equipment ie earthmoving and drill rigs. Blasting experience essential.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness
  • High level of understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in Zambia.
  • Able to clearly demonstrate the aptitude to drive a light vehicle and hold a current Zambian driver’s license.
  • Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
