Job Title: Project Specialist

JOB DESCRIPTION

The project specialist role is a key leadership position in the rapidly growing Impact department. This project specialist will join either our M&E or Product Innovations, teams. The M&E team carries out the yearly impact evaluation of the Zambia maize program and researchers ad-hoc opportunities for OAF to improve its operations. The product innovations department is in charge of identifying and scaling new products for Zambia farmers to increase our impact.

The project specialist’s responsibilities for the M&E team include:

  • Recruit, train, and develop a team of surveyors and their supervisors
  • Support in the creation of surveys
  • Manage the implementation of the surveys through calendars, field visits, key performance indicators, and training
  • Oversee databases
  • Collaborate with international teams on data analysis
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the country director

The project specialist’s responsibilities for the Product Innovations team include:

  • Design, implement, analyses and report trial activities
  • Supervise the implementation of all trial activities
  • Recruit, train, and develop a team of surveyors and their supervisor
  • Lead knowledge management within the department
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the country director

QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking an exceptional professional with 2+ years of work experience and ideally a demonstrated passion for international development. Candidates who fit the following criteria are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Strong work experiences. Examples include a demanding professional work experience, or successful entrepreneurial experience (e.g. leading a conference, or starting a business).
  • Leadership experience at work, or outside of work
  • Top-performing academic background

ROLE SPECIFIC SKILLS:

  • Practical experience with writing surveys for field data collection.
  • Understanding of best practices in experimental design concepts, such as control group selection and randomization.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Excel, specifically:
  • Ability to design basic data-entry spread-sheets with useful data validation.
  • Ability to extract summary statistics using both Pivot Tables and Excel formulae
  • Experience (entry-level) in statistical packages such as SPSS, Stata or R (desired)
  • Proven ability to teach/mentor others
  • Humility, teamwork, flexibility and a positive attitude.
  • Languages: English required, Bemba, Tonga and/or Nyanja preferred.
