New Job Opportunities at Lubambe Copper Mines: Accounting Metallurgist


Lubambe Copper Mine is located within the Greater Konkola Area of the Zambian Copperbelt and consists of a large-scale mining license covering an area of approximately 240 square kilometres. The mine is a modern, world class facility with fully mechanized underground operations.

Lubambe Copper Mines is owned by EMR Capital of Australia (80%) and ZCCM — Investments Holdings (20%).  The Mine is currently in a ramp up stage and will ultimately produce 45, 000 tonnes of contained copper and will employ approximately 1,500 people. The Plant infrastructure consists of a Concentrator plant, a laboratory and underground infrastructure. The Concentrator incorporates crushing, milling, flotation, and filtration. The design capacity is 2.5 MTPA of ore at an average mill grade of 2.3% copper, yielding 45,000 tonnes of contained copper in concentrate to be sold to a smelter in Zambia.

To support this vision, Lubambe Copper Mine seeks to employ experienced and qualified individuals in the following position:

ACCOUNTING METALLURGIST– 1 POSITION

This position reports to the SeniorMetallurgist – Process.

Purpose of the Position.

To carry out a check in, check out the balance for the Ore treated, Copper produced and dispatched at Lubambe and consumables used for concentrate production and input into the Lubambe Met accounting system for reference, accounting and accountability.

Key Performance Areas Indicators (KPA/Is):

  • Responsible for your safety and the people around your working perimeter.
  • Responsible for all concentrate loading, dispatches, and reconciliations
  • To prepare daily production and metallurgical accounting reports
  • To check the accuracy of the concentrator iControl report
  • To prepare the Concentrator daily, weekly and monthly summary report.
  • To prepare all consumables daily reports.
  • To audit the performance of all weightometers and sample cutters to guarantee accurate measurements and reporting
  • To participate in plant sampling surveys when there isa shortage of manpower
  • To report immediately any observed metallurgical anomaly and champion the audit process
  • To ensure all Mill balls, reagents received are clearly entered in the consumable spreadsheet and correctly labelled with quantity, supplier, invoice Number, and order number.
  • In Liaison with the laboratory staff, keep track of all concentrate despatches, truck down variances between Lubambe and smelter weights as reported by Alfred H Knight.
  • To follow up with the laboratory and ensure all accounting assays are entered on time and correctly such as Daily composites, shipment assays, Moistures etc.
  • Perform any other jobs as maybe requested by the technical
  • Metallurgical team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in B. Min. sc Metallurgy, B. Eng. Chemical, B. Eng. Metallurgy
  • A member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
  • She/he should have Minimum five (5) years’ relevant experience in metallurgical accounting
  • Experience in the use of metallurgical accounting databases.
  • Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications.
  • Proven supervisory experience in a large copper mining operation will be advantageous.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
