Zambia Sugar Plc., a large agro-industry which is part of Illovo Sugar Ltd, is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugarcane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products. The Company has a permanent employee base of 1 700 employees and offers medical, educational, sport, recreation and other social facilities on the Estate in Mazabuka.

The recently expanded Nakambala Sugar Mill area comprises approximately 28 000 hectares of irrigated sugarcane. Approximately 1 7 000 hectares of the planted area is owned by Zambia Sugar Plc.; and the balance of 1 1 000 hectares is owned by fourteen commercial Growers and three small-scale grower entities whose affairs are managed by the Estimated Recoverable Crystals (ERC) Committee comprising membership from Zambia Sugar Plc. and the Growers.

The Company now invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the following position;

Main responsibilities

LAND PREPARATION MANAGER (1)

Organising , planning and managing all aspects of the Land Preparation section

• Preparing and controlling sectional operational , capital and manpower budgets
• Preparing service schedules and ensuring equipment availability for service
• Constructing and maintaining all Estate and Out growers roads
• Preparing and levelling cane fields for planting
• Carrying out sub-soiling (ripping ) and on- barrying of ratoon and plant cane fields
• Managing carrying out baggage handling operations at Boiler sheds
• Managing disposing of ash and filter mud from the plant
• Carrying out disilting of dams, cleaning, and excavation of subsurface drains
• Preparing of weekly and monthly reports
• Organising and transportation of seed cane to the fields.
• Ensuring safety and environmental aspects of subordinates and promoting safety awareness through teaching and enforcing the Company code of Safety regulations
• Undertaking team performance settings and reviews in the section in accordance with Company Performance Management procedure
• Performance Manage the Land Preparation team to ensure all jobs are done to standard on time safely and provide
• coaching and mentoring to improve team performance.

Qualification and Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering
• At least five years’ experience in an Agricultural industry
• Essential knowledge of Agriculture Services reporting standards, Occupational Safety and Health Act computerized planning systems, Project Management, Advanced Computer knowledge, Information Management and interpretation of data
• Must be a member of Engineering Institution of Zambia
