New Jobs at Zambia National Commercial Bank: Head Economic Research – 4th August 2017


Zambia National Commercial Bank Plc (Zanaco) is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the following job aimed at contributing to the Bank’s strategic vision, in the Commercial Division under the Treasury Department at Head Office:-

Responsibilities

  • To lead the Bank’s Research Department in conducting economic research, data collection and analysis, and monitoring of global, regional and domestic economic and financial developments
  • To ensure the production of key research outputs such as briefs, reports and publications for internal and prescribed external use
  • The role holder is also expected to generate scenarios to support the Bank’s stress testing and identify key risks facing the Bank and its customers’ businesses
  • Under the supervision of the Treasurer, the following are among the Job Key Responsibilities:-
  • To manage, coordinate, and participate in research activities and content generation of the Research Department
  • Managing a team of research analysts
  • Keeping up to date with financial trends, macro-economic events, market developments, new investment products, and all other areas that can affect the markets
  • Coordinating output and timing of research and content
  • Manage adhoc research projects involving content and the distribution of content to clients
  • Provide quality control in the research cycle
  • To lead the production of regular reports which monitor developments in global and local financial markets as well as the Bank’s key markets and products
  • Develop and publish high quality sector and country reports and provide timely analysis on their likely impact on the Zambian economy, the Bank’s operations and selected customers
  • Build internal company financial and business models
  • Develop and manage a library of the Bank’s publications, research papers, call reports and newsletters/periodicals to act as a knowledge repository
  • To provide research support to management and business units to enhance the quality of decision making
  • Acting as key liaison between the Research function and Management and other units within the Bank
  • Engaging with the Business Units to pro-actively design and develop new research products and service based on insights obtained from market research and analysis
  • Provide analytical and information support to management in strategy formulation and execution
  • Maintaining sound relationships with clients and other stakeholders
  • Working with other Business Units to develop sector research and client presentations for clients to enhance both client and Bank business
  • Working with other Business Units to develop and strengthen key client relationships by providing timely market and business insights to increase customer loyalty
  • Working with other Business Units to organize client forums to educate customers on impact of major market developments and trends
  • External: Professional Bodies, Regulatory Bodies, Data provider institutions, Food and Agriculture clients
  • Internal: All Divisions

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Credit or above mandatory in Mathematics and English and any other three subjects
  • Degree in a relevant field or professional qualification from a recognized university
  • Master’s Degree in Economics or other related fields from a recognized University
  • Three (3) years as research economist/analyst preferably in the financial services industry
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and presenting research papers
  • An expert understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods, especially econometrics and operations research
  • Demonstrated capability of analyzing business and financial information and ability to translate these into a business recommendation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Leadership capabilities
  • Organisation skills
