NMS Infrastructure of the UK has been contracted by the Ministry of Health of Zambia to design, construct and equip three 200-bed District Hospitals and 108 Health Centres

Job Title: Biomedical Technician

NMS Infrastructure, Zambia seeks an experienced and proven Biomedical Technician to take on the tasks of Installation, Commissioning, Maintenance and Training (ICMT)

Reporting to: ICM&T Manager

Based at: Lusaka with travel throughout Zambia

Qualifications & Experience:

  • HND or Diploma in Biomedical Engineering or related subject
  • Minimum of five years’ experience of work in a hospital setting
  • Thorough knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and safety standards is essential
  • Excellent communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance of a diverse range of Medical and Non-Medical Equipment
    Performing electrical safety inspections on Medical Equipment using specialized tools and
    test equipment (STTE)
  • Assisting in the systematic preventive maintenance programme of medical equipment. Work independently in both routine and complex tasks. Being able to prioritise work and initiate new work and tasks
  • Documenting all work performed including new equipment inspections, corrective and preventive maintenance and special requests as required. Maintaining documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Assistance in the management of the CMMS
  • Assisting hospital clinical and technical staff in the proper operation and user maintenance of clinical equipment.
  • Communication with users regarding the status of repairs. Meeting the needs of clinical departments and obtaining loaner or replacement equipment as required
  • Acceptance testing on new clinical equipment per department policy
  • Being aware of patient- and work-safety issues, reporting problems found and assisting with correction of issues as required
  • Identifying and recording medical equipment that is obsolete, has an extensive repair history, no longer has service support from the manufacturer or has identified safety problems
  • Providing good customer service, answering phones in a pleasant manner
  • Screening and referring calls as appropriate and providing information to staff, visitors and patients, upon request
  • Maintaining a professional appearance and enthusiastic approach to work
  • Maintaining good relationships with fellow workers, clinical staff and other hospital workers
  • Maintaining a high level of productivity. Making suggestions to improve departmental productivity when appropriate
  • Maintaining a clean and safe workplace
  • Following all departmental policies and procedures
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the ICMT Manager

Skills and Experience:

The successful applicant will have:

  • Proven and successful experience as a Biomedical Technician in a hospital setting
  • Computer literacy in MS Office, CMMS and other forms of communication
  • A good record of management skills
  • A Zambian Driving Licence
