Current Recruitment at PEAS Zambia: Education Manager


The Education Manager for PEAS will:-

  • Lead the PEAS Zambia Education team and develop strategies to improve student learning outcomes in PEAS schools
  • Line manage key programme staff by providing training, coaching and mentoring opportunities
  • Ensure full compliance to PEAS policies including: child protection, admission, etc across the network.
  • Embed the use of monitoring and evaluation data to guide decision making across PEAS Zambia
  • Work closely with the UK-based global team to collaborate on
  • Active member of the Senior Management Team
  • Temporary serve as Regional Programme Manager oversee programmes in the Central Region

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Strategy, planning and oversight

  • Contribute to the design of global strategic goals and lead on the programme design for driving Access, Quality and Sustainability across the PEAS Zambia school network
  • Lead the development of the PEAS Zambia education strategy, annual plans and budgets in line with PEAS global education strategy
  • Oversee the implementation of the PEAS Zambia education strategy to ensure the continual drive for improved quality of education across all PEAS Zambia schools
  • Be the voice of our students in strategic meetings, forming a critical link between the network and other senior leaders in the organisation

2. Central programmes support and supervision

  • Lead delivery of high quality support and supervision across the network including by developing curriculum for life skills for students, designing and overseeing the implementation of teacher training, monitoring child protection, conducting monitoring and evaluation, and School Inspections
  • Be a Think Tank which constantly pushes that team to try new approaches to equip schools and regional implementation teams with the tools to step up the impact PEAS has in providing quality, accessible, low-cost education
  • Build a culture of commitment, high aspirations and collaboration across the team where evidence and experience are core to a continuous improvement drive across the programmes team
  • Empower individuals to make their own decisions and encourage a rigorous focus on outcomes and impact that is communicated consistently and effectively
  • Be a tireless advocate of PEAS’ Child Protection Policy
  • Be a champion for PEAS to the wider audience in education, civil society organisations and corporate institutions looking to develop the social responsibility practices through advocacy

3. Implementing programmatic excellence

  • Develop and train regional teams to reliably implement PEAS’ mission on the ground, supporting school leaders to make great decisions which balance Access, Quality and Sustainability
  • Lead on ensuring compliance to internal PEAS network focused policies and minimizing school level risk.
  • Support schools to deliver on PEAS’ ambitious goals of student enrolment, completion rates, adding value to student exam results, cost management and fee collection

4. Grant delivery

  • Lead on implementation of activities defined by PEAS’ grants, including those by major institutions, and support team in timely reporting and risk management
  • Contribute to design of new grant applications, ensuring that activity commitments are aligned with programmatic priorities to drive maximum impact for PEAS’ beneficiaries

Skills and qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of a degree in education from a recognised university
  • Passionate about improving the life chances of all children through educational opportunity
  • Experience successfully running, managing, or supporting a number of schools in Zambia or elsewhere
  • Proven track record of improving educational outcomes in low-resource settings
  • Strong track record in budget management, reporting and financial management
  • Proven ability to motivate, manage and develop a mixed ability team
  • Experience working with other cultures, preferably internationally
  • Experience managing complex stakeholder groups, in particular in rural, low-income settings
  • Ability to spend 30% of your time in the field
  • Excellent MS Office skills, particularly MS Word and Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Bemba languages
  • Committed to building own capacity and capacity of others through coaching, mentoring and training staff.
  • Collaborative and participatory management style (listens and seeks to understand different perspectives)

Desired skills

  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Experience of developing and implementing Child Protection programme and of managing Child Protection risks
  • Experience overseeing the implementation of programmes funded by institutional or bi-lateral donors (e.g. DfID, USAID, EU, etc.)
  • 6+ years demonstrated experience in implementing development projects
  • Some knowledge of any of the following key issues in development education, public-private partnerships in education, educational leadership and Teaching & Learning
  • Experience in advocacy and external influencing
  • In-depth knowledge of the rural context in Zambia and community dynamics
