Working in Zambia since 1996, Plan International Zambia’s development and capacity building programmes focus primarily on Education, Health, Water and Sanitation, Economic Security and Youth Empowerment, including Child Protection and Participation. Plan International Zambia has Programme Areas (PAs) in; Central, Luapula, and Eastern Provinces including in Lusaka, where the Country Office is located.

Plan is seeking a suitable person to fill the position below:

MEDIA OFFICER – COUNTRY OFFICE   (3 Year contract)

The Media Officer supports the Communications Department in developing, implementing and monitoring communications and visibility/branding plans. S/he participates in gathering, compiling, documenting, archiving, updating, packaging and sharing of critical information, that is key to support the achievement of country programme goals in marketing, fundraising, external influencing, and branding.

Key areas of responsibility include:

Branding and Visibility:

  • Support and guide Country Office, Programme Areas and other relevant stakeholders on communications and visibility/branding plans.
  • Ensure brand compliance on all developed content for internal and external sharing.

Media Coordination & Engagement:

  • Develop and maintain a database for media engagement at National, District, and Regional level
  • Support and coordinate media engagement to support Country Office, Projects, Partners and Program Units.
  • Compile and develop content for social media and traditional media.
  • Conduct pre- and post-events reviews to ensure that media communications are of high quality and have a clear value- adding angle towards activity outcomes, Plan International values, child protection policy and the Welfare of the beneficiaries and Sponsor Relations
  • Monitor the press and information, perception about Plan International  in the public domain and communities, recommend opportunities and relay such intel to the Communications Manager

Content development:

  • Work with Program or Project leads to compile and develop lessons learnt and case studies for use at various platforms to showcase our work
  • Coordinate procedures for content development, this may include; securing Photo/Film signed consents.
  • Compile content and perform follow-ups on story development (case studies and success stories) from Program Units for the publication of the 18+ Insights, Newsletters, News bulletins, fact Sheets, Profiles, etc.
  • Ensure creativity in the designs of communications materials

Manage social media campaigns and day-to-day activities including: 

  • Develop relevant content topics to reach the organization’s target audience
  • Create, curate, and manage all published content (images, video and written).
  • Monitor, listen and respond to users in a “Social” way while cultivating leads and likes.
  • Develop and expand (grow) social media community and/or influencer outreach efforts
  • Design, create and manage promotions and social ad campaigns.
  • Become an advocate for the company in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate.
  • Ensure program activities are publicized on social media (Twitter and Facebook) as they take place to ensure constant publicity and engagement with the public and internal and external partners.

Internal Communication:

  • Support CO, Program and Project teams to establish an innovative, user-friendly, reliable, and up-to-date internal information database for experiences sharing, knowledge sharing, and information sharing and make it accessible.
  • Ensure that regular online, print and video production materials for both for internal and external consumptions are properly, timely and systematically shared and archived.
  • Compile content to develop and share a regular newsletter and weekly highlight to staff and stakeholders

Maintain an evidence-based resource repository base  

  • Update and maintain resource repository

Collaborate with development partners and officials appropriately in carrying-out shared public relations duties.

Safeguarding Children and Young People and Risk Management

  • Facilitate and support the implementation of safeguarding children and young people policies and practices at the community level and promote child participation in safeguarding children and young people related activities to ensure proper awareness is raised on safeguarding children and young people – issues and that children participate at all levels
  • Conduct capacity building training targeting partners, plan staff, community members and children on safeguarding children and young people- issues to raise awareness
  • Identify key risks within your area of operation and put in appropriate control measures to manage them.

 Individual Specifications:

  • University degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or equivalent in a communications-related discipline
  • Has no less than 2-3 years’ work experience in Communications/PR or Journalism. An International NGO experience will be an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in digital communications and graphics will be an added advantage
