Job Description

Dot Com Zambia is seeking a qualified Head of Accounts (Senior Accountant) to assume full accountability, responsibility and supervision for the day- to- day implementation and execution of the financial aspects of the business, including strategic and tactical decisions affecting procurement, cost and cash flow management. This would be in addition to the preparation of management accounts for stakeholders and auditors.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial Records and Reporting:

  • Develops process for and prepares accurate and timely monthly management account statements with detailed analysis.
  • Conduct and oversee the day-to-day accounting functions including Invoicing, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Inventory Control Management and assures accurate journal entries
  • Prepare petty cash books
  • Oversees management of cash flow and banking relationships
  • Prepares statutory matters to ensure all returns are filed accurately and on time (i.e. review and submission of VAT, PAYE, NAPSA, tax returns).
  • Ensures audit requirements are fulfilled.

Risk Management:

  • Oversee the design, formulation and adherence to a robust system of internal controls and processes.
  • Oversee and ensure that daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations have been completed accurately and submitted to relevant officers as per agreed timeline schedules.
  • Oversee the company’s fixed and current assets and therefore ensure that they are properly accounted for and maintained, serviced and adequately covered by insurance.
  • Monitor performance against budget (revenue and cost) and recommend corrective action to Management and the Board.

Business & Strategic Planning:

  • Co-ordinate the annual budget process and forecasting.
  • Develop performance measures that support the company’s strategic direction and assisting with the implementation of strategic decisions.

Position requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in structuring an accounts department and creating processes
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning and management skills
  • A team player that is a hands-on, detail-oriented accountant.
  • Self-driven with excellent problem-solving skills
  • at least two years of experience

Qualifications and experience:

  • At least four years of accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of e-commerce and inventory management systems
  • CAT, ZICA II, ACCA level II or equivalent
  • Membership of Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants a Plus
