ABOUT THE HEALTH PRESS
The Health Press – Zambia is a publication of the Zambia National Public Health Institute under the Directorate of Public Health in the Ministry of Health. Its establishment in November 2016 stems from the recognition of the need for reliable health-related information to policy makers, public health practitioners, and the general public. The contents of the publication are overseen by the Editor-in-Chief but the publisher is the Zambia National Public Health Institute.

In order to address the challenges in making informed decisions of public health within Zambia and the global world in general, The Health Press Zambia aspires to be a leading publication that will inform policy makers, public health practitioners, and the general public at large.
MISSION
The mission of The Health Press – Zambia is to publish and disseminate effectively and timely, influential scientific information and recommendations of public health importance that will transform public health worldwide, but more so for the underserved and poor populations. It aims to improve the capacity in decision making among global leaders, policy makers, public health practitioners and researchers in order to minimise public health threats.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Desktop Publisher will be employed on a part-time basis. This person uses computer software to design, layout, and format pages for print and online publication of the journal. The Desktop Publisher will produce error-free, attractively laid out text, figures, and tables to meet a regular publication deadline and can, when necessary, produce early releases with a turn-around time of a few hours. This requires skill using document-management software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, In-design).
Minimum qualifications
- At least 2-years work experience in preparing copies for print and online distribution
- Scientific or public health training a plus
Education Requirements
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree (graphic design, graphic arts, communication, or comparable)
- At least 2-years work experience in print and online copy distribution
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience with computer software and drafting, graphic art, graphic design, graphic communications, illustration, office technology, and photojournalism.
- Strong copy editing and proofreading skills
- Experience with WordPress a plus
- Strong attention to detail
- Enthusiasm
Duties and Responsibilities
- Produce error-free, attractively laid out text, figures, and tables
- Meet strict deadlines oftentimes with a short turn-around of a few hours
- Use of desktop publishing software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, In-design)
- Update The Health Press website
Requirements
- Available to devote a minimum of 5 hours per week to assist in the production of The Health Press bulletin
- Meet educational and experience requirements as stated above
- Fluency in spoken and written English
