Online Media Developer Job: BioCarbon Partners


The eco-charcoal™ project has been designed to address and confront unsustainable charcoal production in Rufunsa District, which is identified as a major driver of deforestation in the region, primarily driven by consumption in greater Lusaka. The amount of charcoal demand is increasing while alternative sources of energy do not yet provide solutions in sufficient scale to reduce unsustainable resource extraction. Even with increases of these alternatives, charcoal consumption is likely to remain high in the foreseeable future due to people’s familiarity with it and certain advantages over other types of fuel.

Eco-Charcoal™ is a social enterprise that has produced and sold sustainable charcoal in Zambia since 2013. This green energy product provides clear community and conservation co-benefits. The product is currently sold in several markets segment (e.g. retail, hospitality) with various promotional activities taking place. Eco-Charcoal™ website is expected to be key branding portal and information source for the product users, the general public, and other stakeholders.

2. Background

Eco-Charcoal™ is commercializing, and with that growth, we need to improve our online marketing to increase product awareness within Lusaka and Zambia. This is an exciting opportunity for an up and coming and savvy online media developer/website designer to make an impact and to contribute to the success of an environmentally and socially important project.

Currently, we have a website, http://www.eco-charcoal.com and a Facebook page, but we need to improve both and attract more followers.

Thereby we are looking to engage an Online Media Developer to review and improve the content, attractiveness, and number of visitors to both our website and social media to increased awareness about this product.

3. Scope of Work

The Online Media Developer will be a savvy and creative go-getter. They will review and update the Eco-charcoal™ website to increase online traffic and engagement leading to increased sales.

  • Develop a strategy for online marketing activities.
  • Review current Eco-charcoal™ website and strategize updates to layout, structure, and design of the website that will lead to increased interest in a product leading to more sales.
  • Review existing web copy and develop new copy that is consistent with the product branding and objectives while leading to increased interest and improved sales.
  • Improve Search Engine Optimization (SEO) of website and social media to attract new followers
  • Develop a photo gallery on the website that showcases our work and social impacts.
  • Integrate social media to the website
  • Improve our presence on Facebook by developing dynamic, informative posts and consistently posting in order to grow our online presence and making Eco-charcoal™ a sought after product for customers in Zambia.

One month from the day of engagement.

5. Location:

With the nature of this work, the location of the assignment can be negotiated.

6. Requirements:

The following are expected requirements for the engagement:

  • Background with experience or qualification in website design and online media development
  • Experience in developing engaging and effective social media marketing on Facebook
  • Experience in developing and improving website and social media SEO
  • Top-notch writing skills in developing clear and engaging material online
  • Portfolio of previous work including 3 websites, examples of social media work, and examples of copy written for websites
  • Familiarity in working with Joomla or any other recommended Content Management System
