Operations Manager Job: Zambia Electronic Clearing House Limited (ZECHL)


Zambia Electronic Clearing House Limited (ZECHL) is a corporate entity registered under the Companies Act 1994, Chapter 388 of the Laws of Zambia whose main objective is to provide reliable, efficient, and cost-effective clearing and switching services to the financial sector. The company now wishes to recruit for the position to be based at its Head Officer situated at the COMESA Head Office Lusaka.

OPERATIONS MANAGER

Job Summary

To provide daily operations oversight of all the organization payment streams ATMs, POS, Mobile, Cheque Transaction System (CTS).

Key Accountabilities

The successful candidate will among other things:

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures on clearing and settlement of all payment streams.
  • Ensure operations’ policies and procedures of the Organisation are followed correctly to avoid risks, and also ensure that the credibility of the Organisation is upheld by enforcing a standard of operating in staff at all times.
  • Good understanding of contemporary payments systems and their effect on the payment ecosystem
  • Monitor daily operations to ensure free flow processes, and also supervise the execution of daily tasks.
  • Provide mentorship to members of the operations team by observing their daily activities and assisting them in solving complicated issues arising from errors in operations.
  • Provide support to Banks on all clearing and payment streams and settlement issues.
  • Coordinate the review and update of business studies for all payment streams from time to time;
  • Ensure client data is protected from the public and secured against fraud by enforcing access rights and verification levels.
  • Co-ordinates and implements the testing of the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) as set out in the BCP procedure document;
  • Verification of Settlement positions for all clearing payment streams
  • Allocation of workloads, supervision, and coaching of subordinate staff
  • Monitor the functionality of the system and applications for integrity and availability.
  • Implement approved improvements to clearing payment streams.
  • Increase the effectiveness and efficiency of Support Services through improvements to each payment clearing stream:
  • Manage customer help desk.

Academic and Professional Qualifications & skills

  • A full grade 12 certificate/School Certificate with credit passes including English language and Mathematics
  • Degree in Banking/Business Administration/Management Information Systems/ Computer Science or equivalent
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field an added advantage.
  • At least five years’ relevant experience in Payments CTS, EFT, and Switching of Automated teller machines and Point of Sale processes should be a MUST.
  • Membership of any professional Body
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving and management skills.
  • Exceptional negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen and detail-orientated.
