Description of the Role
This vacancy is an exciting senior position opportunity based in Harare, Zimbabwe. The position will be responsible for leading Oxfam’s Humanitarian Program, providing direction, focus and long-term vision to ensure the organisation’s relevance to the local context in Zimbabwe through development, mitigation, humanitarian response and recovery initiatives across Zimbabwe. This involves reviewing the current in-country situation, determining how contingency plans and existing plans measure up, building capacity of Oxfam and partner teams on the ground, coaching, training and passing on expertise to ensure humanitarian work meets the highest standards. The position will be required to work with partners and affiliates to drive the organisation forward and strengthen capacity to address short and long term needs. Risk reduction, emergency preparedness and response capacity in program design and preparation will be high on the agenda.
Requirements
What We Are Looking For
- Such a high profile and important role calls for an inspirational leader with extensive knowledge and experience managing multi-sectoral humanitarian programs, especially WASH, food security and livelihoods. Specifically, the ideal candidate should possess the following;
- An advanced university degree in the relevant field; preferably international development, economics, politics, sociology and humanities, especially at post-graduate level
- At least 7 years exper~ence at senior management level with evidence of effective decision making, managing multi-functional work teams and a critical focus on the delivery of agreed results with time and budget constraints and to expected standards
- Proven understanding of humanitarian principles and the ability to put them into practice, coupled with capacity building initiatives and innovative humanitarian strategies is essential
- A strong communicator with impeccable judgement in complex situations and who knows how to get things done
