Panthera Zambia is a Non-profit, Non-Governmental Organization operating in Zambia devoted to the conservation of big wildcats and their ecosystems.
Panthera wishes to invite applications for THREE internships of 3 to 6 month duration for positions of Community Conservation Officer/Field Biologist/Assistant Program Manager to work in the Greater Kafue Ecosystem. The successful candidates will be involved in a broad range of ecological and community initiatives related to the conservation of Zambian Natural Heritage, especially large carnivores.
The following are essential needs for each specific position:
Community Conservation Officer (based in Livingstone and surrounding areas)
- The spoken languages of Tonga or Toka/Leya is required.
- Proficiency in Lozi is a strong advantage
- Emotionally intelligent and stable
- Strong conflict resolution skill
- Highly resilient – must be able to work in rough conditions (note: most nights will be spent camping)
This position includes work in Kazungula, Mwandi, Mumbwa, Greater Kafue Ecosystem and other protected areas.
Field Biologist (based at Hook Bridge in Kafue National Park)
- Highly resilient – must be able to work in rough conditions (note: most nights will be spent camping)
- Proficiency in Nyanja is a necessity
This position includes work in the Greater Kafue Ecosystem based at Hook Bridge.
Assistant Project Manager (based in Mumbwa/ Chunga Area Management Unit Headquarters)
- The spoken languages of Nyanja, Tonga/Ila are necessities.
- This position includes work in the Greater Kafue Ecosystem based at the DNPW Chunga Area Management Unit Headquaters.
- Strong conflicts resolving skill
For all positions the desired candidates must meet the following requirements;
- Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Management/Biology, Conservation Ecology or closely related Natural Resource Management degree.
- Strong interest in natural resources/wildlife conservation is required
- 1-3 years of working experience in similar environments and roles
- Strong communication & presentation skills
- Strong team player
- Ability to work under strict instruction
- Self-motivated
- Emotionally intelligent and stable
- Results/goal-oriented
- Honesty and good integrity
- Willing and able to work independently
- Willing to do extensive fieldwork in remote/rural areas sometimes for long hours
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Must be able and willing to build strong working relationships with partners from various backgrounds (traditional leaders, community members, partner NGOs, local authority, Department of National Parks and Wildlife, and other government departments, etc).
- Good computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Earth.
Additional advantages
