AAZ works with marginalized and excluded women and young people, their organizations, and movements to address the structural causes of social injustice, gender inequality, and poverty.

ActionAid Zambia has a vacancy for experienced and suitably qualified Zambians to fill the position of Participatory Democracy Officer.

JOB PURPOSE
The Participatory Democracy Officer will be responsible for leading ActionAid Zambia’s work on electoral accountability in line with the established policies, principles, and operating practices of ActionAid International as well as other standard practices. The job holder will ensure adherence to procedures and policies that meet donor rules and regulations.

a) KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead implementation of ActionAid Zambia electoral accountability activities.
  • Support partner implementation of electoral accountability programs.
  • Establish and maintain an updated database of various partners working on electoral accountability.
  • Develop timely and efficient communication mechanisms between ActionAid and partners working on electoral accountability.
  • Undertake Partner Assessments, document capacity needs, and facilitate capacity building initiatives for partners
  • Support and Facilitate advocacy engagements with key stakeholders including policymakers on electoral accountability.
  • Support coordination of electoral accountability activities implemented by partners
  • Preparing timely and quality reports in line with AAZ’s M&E reporting cycle
  • Maintain coordination with the Hub Coordinators for planning and implementation of electoral accountability activities at the district and Hub level.
  • In collaboration with Communications Team and M&E/ quality Assurance unit, ensure regular documentation, promotion of shared learning, and ensuring sound donor communications.
  • Support proposal writing efforts by contributing technical write-ups as assigned.

b) COMPETENCY PROFILE

  • Demonstrate an understanding of basic human rights law
  • Overcome resistance to change by involving others, listening, and building commitment.

c) QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

  • Minimum of Degree in Political Science, Development Studies or its equivalent.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in Political Governance work, electoral accountability is a MUST.
  • Good understanding of the political system and issues such as Governance, Democracy, Civil Society landscape, and policy reforms issues in Zambia.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading and working within influential coalitions and networks.
  • Demonstrable experience in advocacy and campaigns on good governance.
  • Demonstrable experience in building capacity of partners and staff on public governance.
  • Strong understanding of political governance and its relation to pro-poor development.
  • Experience in managing partnership relationships; and
  • Understanding of different donor requirements and ways of working.
