The Ministry of Health (MOH) seeks to recruit suitably qualified and experienced persons to be appointed to the under listed positions under the World Bank supported Southern Africa Tuberculosis and Health Systems Support Project. The positions will be based in Kitwe, at the Occupational Health and Safety Institute.
The International Development Association (IDA) has provided funding towards the implementation of the Southern African tuberculosis and Health Systems Support Regional Project involving four Countries (Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia). The overall objectives of the project are to: (i) improve coverage and quality of TB control and occupational lung disease services in targeted geographic areas of the participating countries; and (ii) strengthen regional capacity to manage the burden of TB and occupational diseases. The project supports efforts to address the regional dimension of the TB epidemic while strengthening critical dimensions in the health system. The project has three mutually reinforcing components which are: (i) Innovative Prevention. Detection and Treatment of T B; (ii) Regional Capacity for Disease Surveillance, and Diagnostics and Management of TB and Occupational Lung Diseases; (iii) Regional Learning and Innovation, and Project Management.
Each project country is tasked to create a Center of Excellence of which Zambia is creating a Center of Excellence in Occupational Health and Safety. In this regard Zambia intends to transform the Occupational Health and Safety Institute (OHSI) and its implementing partners namely the Mine Safety Department (MSD) and Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security into a Center of Excellence through implementation of various activities which include physical infrastructure rehabilitation, modernizing the equipment for both primary prevention and secondary surveillance and detection of Silicosis and TB, staff recruitment and development, creation of an integrated electronic data management system.
PATHOLOGIST (1)
Reports to: Deputy Director
Location: Occupation Health and Safety Institute, KITWE
The Pathologist will be responsible for supervising and conducting timely and accurately, laboratory examinations in order to facilitate confirmation of the diagnosis.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervises and conducts timely and accurate production of laboratory reports in order to facilitate decision making.
- Supervises and undertakes regularly, research in pathological and laboratory programs in order to facilitate the development of appropriate interventions
- Coordinates effectively monitoring and evaluation of pathological and laboratory programs in order to facilitate the development of appropriate interventions
- Coordinates Timely development of work plans in order to monitor and evaluate individual
- Supervises effectively utilization of human and other resources in order to attain set objectives
Qualifications and Experience
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate with five O level credits including Engl ish and Mathematics
- MB CHB or equivalent to Master’s of Science in Pathology.
- Proven work experience of at least 3 years in a similar field
- Must have a fair knowledge of the operations of the Zambian Occupational Health and Safety Regulatory System.
- Experience working in the Health sector in Zambia or a similar setting in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Must be able to write comprehensive and analytical medical reports
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Computer literate, particularly in MS Word and Excel
- Must be a registered Member of Health Professional Council of Zambia (HPCZ)
