JOB OPPORTUNITY
Lubambe Copper Mine is located within the Greater Konkola Area of the Zambian Copperbelt and consists of a large–scale mining license covering an area of approximately 228 square kilometres.
Completed and commissioned in 2012, Lubambe is an underground operation supported by a shaft and decline access with a 2.5 million tonne per annum capacity ore concentrator. The mine’s current depth is 450meters producing a high-grade copper concentrate which is then treated at Zambian smelters.
The mine currently employs 1, 125 direct employees, a further 800 contractors. It places the highest priority on safety with a world class safety system.
Supporting local communities and suppliers is a key business focus of the mine.
EMR Capital owns an 80% controlling interest in Lubambe while ZCCM-IH owns 20%.
The Mine seeks to employ an experienced and qualified individual in the following position:
PLANT METALLURGIST (x1)
This position reports to the Senior Metallurgist.
Core Purpose of the Position
To carry out process monitoring, improvements and control throughout the mineral processing plant.
Key Performance Areas/Indicators (KPA/Is):
- Review milling throughputs, mill weights, densities, grinds and act accordingly on any process deviations.
- Review SAG and Ball Mill performances, discuss with foremen on how to charge the consumption. Review ball levels and raise if required every morning.
- Participate in ensuring correct operations of the milling plant is adhered to.
- Review the flotation process and process control sheet often to monitor the concentrate production. React accordingly to deviations in conjunction with the foremen with regard to Recovery and Grades.
- Champion all activities of the flotation section such as plant trials.
- Ensure correct reagents and optimal dosages are being used and followed.
- Ensure correct thickener operations are adhered to.
- Ensure all reagent mixing and pumping processes are being done correctly and are in good order with the help of section metallurgist and foremen.
- Review previous day dispatched tonnage of concentrate and quality (grade and moisture).
- Ensure timely compilation and release of all concentrator, daily, weekly and monthly metallurgical reports.
- Ensure calibration of all weightometers, loader load cells and weighbridge.
- Perform monthly mass balance, metal reconciliation and reporting.
Academic Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years work experience in a concentrator.
- Must be prepared to work awkward hours.
- Must be innovative and self-driven.
- Must possess stress and time management skills.
- Superior technical and analytical skills.
