Working in Zambia since 1996, Plan International Zambia’s development and capacity building programs focus primarily on Education, Health, Water and Sanitation, Economic Security and Youth Empowerment, including Child Protection and Participation. Plan International Zambia has programme areas in; Central, Luapula, and Eastern Provinces including in Lusaka, where the Country Office is located.
Plan International Zambia seeks to recruit suitable, self-starters and experienced candidates for the following positions to be based in Kabwe, Central Province:
PROJECT MANAGER – (SIDA) EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROGRAMME- FOOD CRISIS -X 1, TEMPORAL POSITION (2 MONTHS)
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Project Manager’s role will be a temporary position based in the Plan International Zambia, Central Office in Kabwe, with direct report to the Emergency Response Manager (ERM), s/he will hold first line responsibility for the programme and financial planning and monitoring of project resources. With a dotted line to the Child Protection in Emergencies Specialist, liaising and coordinating closely with the Plan International Sweden for overall programming and management of SIDA-funded project in the sectors of food security and child protection.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures clear and regular communication between Plan Sweden and SIDA management, its technical team and Plan International Zambia for coordination, planning, implementation and management purposes.
- Functions as the Budget Manager for Plan International, ensuring that activity progress/work plan implementation stays on track as well as budget performance.
- Manages directly project coordinator and other staff to ensure weekly work plan developed and implemented, on-going capacity building, and quality performance management.
- Represents Plan International Zambia with focus emergency activities as requested by the Plan International Zambia ERM, Program Head and Country Director.
- Develop the monthly; quarterly and other required SIDA programmatic reports, ensuring these are of high quality and timely.
- Ensure that the staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under the policies and the code of conduct, their relevance to their area of work and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appreciate procedures.
- Identify key risks within the area of operation and put in appropriate control measures to manage them
- In liaison with Gender Specialist Identify, organize, facilitate capacity building processes for Community Development Facilitators, partners and communities and staff on gender equality, girls’ rights and inclusion;
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MSC or its equivalent in Public Health, International Development or related field;
- At least eight (8) years of experience in health; particularly in school feedings and child protection, including leadership and supervisory experience, with at least five (5) years involvement in community engagement and behavioural changes.
- Experience in gender programming is also strongly preferred.
- NGO experience is a plus
- Excellent management and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with program staff, implementing partners, civil society organizations, community leaders and local government authorities to design and implement approaches to community-based behavioural interventions, working with priority populations, and locally-led community engagement initiatives.
- Proven ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with regional, district and local level government officials, stakeholders, NGOs, and implementing partners.
- Exceptional English (oral and written) communication skills required.
